The first novel reads mostly like the author was playing through the first game, pausing occasionally to Alt-Tab to his word processing app and type up whatever had just happened on-screen. "But the fireballs were the main problem; the brown demons were a lot tougher than the zombies. Suddenly, I was grateful for the pillars; they provided cover, at least. Making a mad dash for the nearest, I fired off the shotgun at the remaining zombies."
I got inspired:
The brown demons clung high above the filthy glowing green nukeage and blew fireballs down at me. It was the same way cobras spit venom at their prey. I'm no prey, but I'm also in no position to shoot down the demons high above me at the other end of the cargo hold.
My only refuge from the fire shower was a series of pillars that held up the ceiling. I clung to those pillars like you cling to your first love. But then like any love, you leave her for the next and the next. Moving closer to those hideous brown demons, I still had to shotgun my way through the shuffling zombies on my level that reached their arms out at me and stood in my path.
: After writing 2 paragraphs, maybe doomnovelguy had X amount of pages.
