im reading about the old D3 Collectors Edition on xbox 1. it contains ultimate doom and doom II. i dont get it. was the classic doom multiplayer offline or online? and if it was online, what happened today to old live service, is it still playable today?

The original Dooms on the CE were not Online Multiplayer, only Doom 3 was. The Classic Doom's actually supported up to 4 players on the same machine. Better than a link cable if you ask me.

just to clarify, 4 players on the same machine? 4 gamepads on box, is that possible?

Yes. The XBox has four ports for controllers built on, like an N64. It didn't need a multitap like a PS2.
