I cannot watch the latest rw.wad demo - kind of desync at the switch. PrBoom+ 2.5.0.5, tried with and without forcing -complevel 9 (is it Boom-compat mapset anyway?). rw.wad = 2652197 bytes, as downloaded from DSDA.

@vdgg: I used prboom 2.5.0.6, that might be the problem. Also, yes rw.wad is boom compatible (at least the map I played is).

Unless there is some horrible compatibility bug (I'm not aware of one), the version of Prboom+ used shouldn't make any difference (well, as long as it is a relatively recent one) in this respect.

And what vdgg meant is that the wad doesn't use any Boom features. It is a vanilla-compatible wad, so -complevel 2 is the natural one to use.

But first I'd check that the version of the wad you have is correct. It desynched in what sounds like just the same way for me in a 2.5.0.7 test version. You didn't let something rebuild the nodes, or something like that, did you? What is the exact file size in bytes (note: bytes, not kilobytes)

the file size is 4,102,213 bytes (4,104,192 on disk). I'm not sure what version I have, but I've had this file for a very long time.

Edit: I found out that the version I'm using is a consolidation of realworld and realworld 2.

Perhaps the tool you used to merge them did something to corrupt the maps (also, you must have needed to change the map numbers, which will obviously have an impact on how some of the maps play). A node rebuild is still the prime suspect, I think.

When recording demos that you intend to make public, it makes sense to use a completely unaltered wad downloaded directly from the archive (or whatever the standard source for the wad may be).

Edit: Ugh, you didn't get it from DLW did you? Please note that all wads from Jive's site will have had node rebuilds, all sorts of changes and often errors introduced (including map numbers changed to locations where they don't work).

I didn't merge them. I have the unmerged wads though so I'll re-record that demo with the unaltered wad.

EDIT: I think that might have been where I got it. I have now deleted that version, and some other stuff i downloaded from there since nonoe of it will work with any of the wads hosted here. Anyway, problem solved. Gotta go re-record that demo now.

Your demos aren't comparable to other RW demos because this is a vanilla WAD and most people record it using compatibility level 2. People generally use level 9 for WADs that use Boom features, not any WAD that Boom can run.

Here's a demo I meant to do two years ago. I'd done a preliminary recording and intended to improve it. Well, today I remembered about this.

Ares (http://www.geocities.jp/masayan_d00m/wad/mywad/ares.zip) (by Masayan) map10 NM Speed (Pacifist) in 0:04

(Also plays back on Elegy - direct link; author's wad page is here.)

Two glides. One of them is optional though (and it's probably quicker and easier without it), so you could consider this a "Trickaholic" demo. :)

Thought I'd look at the next map too...

Ares (http://www.geocities.jp/masayan_d00m/wad/mywad/ares.zip) (by Masayan) map11 UV Pacifist in 0:24

(Also plays back on Elegy - direct link; author's wad page is here.)

Nothing much in the way of tricks here, I'm afraid. I do at least exit dead, so it's not a complete waste of time. :p

In case anyone has issues getting the above-linked Ares WAD, Yahoo doesn't like the direct link, but it will work if one pastes the URL on the browser address bar, or by going here.

Here's an even trickier go at it - four glides (one sideways) plus death exit:

Failed run of holy hell map 5. I'm just putting this here as a reminder to stop wasting my life trying to accomplish such a pointless activity, on a level that isn't even that great.
only got maybe half way. I've been to the end cybers before but that was probably an expired file hosting link.

Well that's certainly an overly ambitious feat, when taking into consideration both the difficulty and playing time, I'm curious to know how you dealt with the inner chapel fight on 02 - The one with rows of seats and a megasphere laying at the end as a sign of an impending bloodbath, that one in particular seemed quite ridicolous with the addition of AV's and no cover provided. Same could be said for the blue key area if the player didn't anticipate the trap.

Have a failed run of 01 myself but don't have the desire to upload it at the moment, got around 1/2 then died rather embaressingly, I was really just pissing around having no thorough practice beforehand. 01 mainly tests your ability to weave in and out of hordes within the very congested surroundings making it my favourite map, while the inexorable hordes are ludicrous which could easily create a repetitive experience, the lack of space within the main building keeps the action constantly hectic.

Eh, fun slaughter WAD but had potential to be alot better.

I don't really mean to trash the wad (i just felt like complaining about something), but after multiple failed attempts on a long wad you start to count the number of hours spent neurotically replaying the same sequence and wonder if there are better ways to spend life, lol.

The part with the row of seats: just run to the star, then run all the way back out to the hall before everyone warps (I think the warp lines are w1 or something so they soon stop warping).

the part with a key in a pit and enemies slowly warp + 2 viles at end: you can strafe 50 out the door and leave them warping to deal with later

Lots of the traps have exploits like that (when you start in the center of surrounding walls that lower when you walk over lines, just walk over the furthest lines, not the close ones).
