Well, slap my ass and call me Sally! A glide, huh? Now the question arises whether the author simply didn't test the area or is a secret Compet-N fan. =)
I don't recall seeing a demo from you before, myk. This was certainly interesting. I like your recording style, reminds me of Mike Toliver's (and I mean it in a good way). Would be nice to have times (total/last) and deaths listed, though; except it is not FDA, if you saw my demos first.
If you're sitting on some other unreleased demos by you, please share.

Perhaps, though I like leaving deaths, especially, as a surprise.

except it is not FDA, if you saw my demos first.
I had your demos waiting on my desktop and said "let's play through this so we can watch these." Heh, I tend to fall back on demo watching out of the habit of playing WADs before watching them, sometimes even replaying stuff I've played in the past.

If you're sitting on some other unreleased demos by you, please share.
Well, demos like this one I have quite a few now as recently I've started recording most first tries or series of attempts.

Here are some "old" demos on LOINK (the demos are in the wad zip file, recorded with zdoom 2.2.0) that weren't posted in the demos forum. It's a slaughter wad for zdoom with rocket jumping - 1 map split into 2 maps. gggmork recorded 2 maxes as well, without using freelook or rocket jumping and using only keyboard (some of the shootable switches must be a lot harder to hit without a mouse).

gggmork
MAP01 max 19:40
MAP02 max 17:16

TimeOfDeath
MAP01 max 10:15
MAP01 speed 2:09
MAP01 max/reality 19:37
MAP02 max 13:15
MAP02 speed 1:27
Max Movie 25:11
Speed Movie 3:36

Been a while since I posted anything here, hasn't it? Here's a new demo I recorded today. This time, it's for another George Fiffy map, since I haven't done that in a while either, which isn't on idgames/ for whatever reason.

WAR3-910.ZIP - UV max on REoL TOUGH: TOTAL WAR III: Land of Weirdness (WAR3.WAD) by George Fiffy in 9:10

Does anybody want to see MM2 MAP09 Pacifist? :-)

It had been discussed in the ancient MM2 tricks thread

From my textfile:

code:
I know about three ways to finish this level Pacifist-style: 1) The fastest, the most difficult. Let the Cacodemon kill you (death slide). m209fai1 shows where the problem lies: you need perfect aiming and in most cases you don't reach the pit anyway. From savegames I fell into the pit two times, but it still was insufficient (with a map editor you'll see why). Anyway, I won't say anything new: possible; if it were an IWAD level, it would have been done already. 2) Do the rocket jump/death slide using the rocket launcher in the secret area. m209fai2 shows another problem: the mancubus... 3) Get the red key, pick up another RL and do the same as in 2). Your worst enemies: shotgunners and one Pain Elemental. 1st exit of course. Can't do this with doom2.exe, with low resolution I don't see the shotgun guys...

Here's more Fiffy action, this time on the next entry in his regular "REoL Tough" series. This level contains a forest maze that predates B.P.R.D's Grove by one decade, and 18 ridiculously difficult-to-find secrets. And by "difficult-to-find," I mean "you'll never find them unless you cheat with a level editor." Fortunately, by watching this demo, you'll learn how to find them.

FIF4-825.ZIP - UV max on REoL TOUGH: The Pit (FIFFY4.WAD) by George Fiffy in 8:25

On a side note, for those who have been following George Fiffy's recent posts on this site, the text file for this WAD contains a Hilarious in Hindsight moment. I point it out in the text file for my demo. ;)

tgh, i love your heroic crusade against shitty old levels, especially this fiffy campaign. bundled with the original text file and your history lesson/fun facts file, it's a pleasant change from reading newspaper during breakfast. :)

So says you. I thought that map was great. Cool demo TGH. I played through the map before watching the demo and only found 1 secret with almost 200 monsters left unkilled, but I liked it and it looks like even more fun with the power weapons.

Heh, I didn't think anyone even cared about my "heroic crusade," as dew puts it. ;) Thanks!

Anyway, here's another Fiffy demo, but now it's on the next entry in the Total War series. It's a school map that barely even resembles a school, packed with the usual clusters of monsters, with an impossible-to-find-without-cheating-with-a-level-editor secret area you can block yourself from reaching if you open access to it too quickly. Oh, yeah, and a rudimentary MIDI of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)."

WAR4-739.ZIP - REoL TOUGH: Satan's School of Warfare (WAR4.WAD) by George Fiffy in 7:39, accompanied by:
  • WAR4BUG1.LMP - Bug demo (player cuts off access to secret area)
  • WAR4BUG2.LMP - Bug demo (player gets trapped in the kitchen)

Here's the first run I ever did, of the first episode of Revolution UV Maxed. It's improveable with MAP09 being terrible but it does its purpose.

It`s quite strange that there`s still no Revolution max movie (32 maps). It`s easy to perform and only thing you should really pay care is the damned lost monsters. Back in days i`ve done it in 90 mins, but it`s not fast enough and have some major mistakes. Maybe someday, after I finish my current WIP demopack, i will return to make it under 80 mins... if noone will do it before me.

That's an impressive demo, whether Compet-N or not.

The thing that is missing from your TXT is how you felt before pulling the trigger on your RL, knowing that in case of failure you'd have to go through another 20-minute-plus pain therapy session. :P

All Fiffy maps are junk, but cutting Maikl's time in half is a noteworthy achievement. At least now you don't need to waste twenty minutes to find out that the map is s***t from start to end, only ten, heheh.

I heartily subscribe to the same view. In fact, why don't you, TGH, pick up where Maikl left off, instead of taking a pot shot here and there? I'm doing it from the other end, with Zs and Ys complete and Xs almost done. Really, there have been precious few (Ultimate) DOOM demos since Maikl disappeared.

As for the rocket suicide in MM2 MAP09, the failure is quite unlikely I think, so I wasn't very nervous if I remember. But yes, I remember the relief when I saw the intermission screen.

Also, in one of my earlier attempts I managed to pick up the RL, but the monsters blocked my way back at the RK door. That was pretty bad...

--------------------------------------------

MAP11 of Darkening 2 - My favourite.

I decided to record an UV Max demo before Andy Olivera releases his spectacular un-beatable TAS demo. My time is about 2 minutes faster than Brad Spencer's. (7:41)

There is also a UV Speed demo in 4:18.

Did a UV-Max for map 4 of Eternal's awesome new mapset Hell Ground.

Time for the run comes to 18:05. Could go much faster by ~30 seconds or so due to forgetting about one secret in the Red section and having to backtrack for it. Then again remembering where 15 secrets are in a singular map is a challenge all by itself :P.

Recorded with GLBoom Plus 2.5.0.5 -complevel 9. You'll need the latest version for this mapset to work properly.

Here's hoping more people record demos for this fine mapset.

Attaching demo now.

Hell Ground map 4 UV-Max improved by nearly two minutes to 16:11. Everything turned out pretty well aside from a lovely hit from a HK fireball near the end of the Green section (Took that one like a man I did) and a small hiccup in the final secret of the Red section.

I imagine this can be knocked down below 16 minutes with enough patience, but for now I'm gonna let this run stand and check out some other HG levels to record on.

Good job on that demo, Anima. Map04 is also my favorite map from this, it was a great pleasure to watch your playthrough.
So it seems you can't escape this pink section while being crushed a bit ? :o

Correct. Unless I'm missing something quite obvious here, you will have to take crushing damage once or twice to get back out of that hallway.

Shouldn't be much of a concern. There's a green armor you can pick up en route to the crushers. You can also wait on taking that berserk secret until you go there so you'll most likely have max health or close to it making the return trip.

If that goes sour, the final secret there has a Soulsphere if you examine the wall behind that rocket pickup.

I'd like to present three UV Max demos for d2reload.wad

My first impression was... not very great (MAP01). Luckily, out of curiosity I watched the FDA demos by skepticist and Heretic. It turned out that there are some fantastic maps out there!

I'd love to do maxes for MAPS 18,26,28, but I won't have time
until late December. Can somebody else record them?

The demos in the zip file:

MAP19 UV Max 8:46 Tech lab. Cool layout and architecture here!
MAP22 UV Max 5:33 Non-linear castle level with some BFG action.
MAP32 UV Max 23:54 Puzzle level. Quoting the author: "Your efforts will be rewarded if you can complete this map with 100% secrets. Everyone fails the first time"

I went for the naming convention dd19-846 (DD for D2reloaD) so the files won't be confused with Darkening 2 demos.

i saw some Whispers of Satan demos from TendaMonsta on DSDA, so i decided to share the mess i'd recorded, too. all UV-speed as usual.

map01 in 0:50
map02 in 1:20
map04 in 1:42
map12 in 1:38
map15 secret exit in 1:00

not much quality in it, but i wasn't very motivated to continue improving. the rest of WOS seems unfriendly to speeds.

More UV-Max action on Hell Ground from me. This time for map 1. Time comes to 5:58. Despite some slip ups and coming close to death at the RK, I hit my target time of under 6 minutes.

Could still see this going ~5 seconds or so lower with enough patience.

But I got mega lost and forgot to do some stuff. I had notes near my keyboard that said what to do, but my brain wasn't working.

Ha ha, 2 great demos on a really hard map. I was trying a bit but doubt I can beat either time. The 4 way approximate mirror symmetry makes it hard to orient yourself or know which switch still needs to be pushed etc.
