I remember long ago trying this on nightmare with savegames, before I knew about the red key trick. I imagine this is very possible, but I haven't bothered to do it because these kind of demos don't interest me much. There is also a secret door which provides an alternative to taking the lift after getting the key. I suppose that should be allowed since it isn't a trick.
