But on the other hand, I had similar problems with other megawads as well. Both Memento Moris contained several maps I strongly disliked and speaking of consistent style regarding these WADs is a joke at best. In the end they are mostly a random collection of maps.
Inconsistency in a megawad is (as I'm sure you already know) generally a product of individual authors imprinting their own style on their maps, often in a manner that clashes with that of other authors on the team. Heck, take a look at DooM2, which has such a diversity of map styles.
While this tends to detract from the experience for some players, I don't really mind, especially if there is no attempt at an underlying storyline or theme. It would be great for every megawad to be story- or theme-driven, but like Christmas, that does not happen often enough for most of us.
