Why is it always the defenders of the 'classic' gameplay that tend to state their personal preference as fact? But in the end it's just that: a personal preference.

What bugs and glitches? I'm talking about physics, gameplay mechanics, basics that essentially play into demo compatibility, etc. not literal bugs and glitches.

Yes, all the stuff in the physics code that plays into demo compatibility. Such things as, for example:

- incomplete blockmap links for things in the map.
- missing checks for collisions with blocking two-sided walls.
- wall running (yes, that, too)
- buggy sliding code for diagonal walls

and so on.
And yes, I know that these have some impact on the game's behavior but some people prefer these to be fixed anyway. ;)
Logically fixing these means no more demo compatibility but honestly, who cares? If I want to watch a demo I use PrBoom for it.

Yeah, that's pretty much on target :) But I did state a few times (in a now nearly-forgotten past, when the Earth was young etc etc) that I'm always interested in testing out new EE builds.

Good for you, because I usually notice different behaviour between builds very quickly since I'm testrunning the same stuff over and over again, plus I'm always trying out new features. And obviously good for me as well, since I can continue design with a more mature EE version.

I guess I'll be trying Lut's tactic :)

Dear Graf,
I have no idea how the hell you got off on this gameplay/bugfix/democomp bullshit rant of yours (which I've seen you on a few times before) because this thread has nothing to do with that. :P

Team Eternity maintains demo comp in EE of it's own free will. It is the teams choice and no one else's, and we will deal with whatever consequence results. I just wish you could understand that your own stance is nearly your opinion of the larger general opinion "most people would prefer these things be fixed" although stated like it's fact, is really just an opinion. I'm not saying that opinion does or does not reflect the actual state of public opinion in the doom community, I'm just saying it's an opinion. So please get off your high horse and at least pretend you don't think you're smarter than everyone else.

My first news post and it turns into this :P

Why does everyone want to create a rivalry between ZDoom and Eternity? With the differences in approach and feature sets, there's more than enough room for the both of us. We have cooperated for the greater good more often than not; Eternity contains quite a bit of ZDoom-derived code without which it would be a much lesser port (buggy mlook, buggy TerrainTypes, buggy 3D object clipping, no particle system, and no guidance on how to implement and then extend the Hexen map format and its features...)

Perhaps I've encouraged it with my occasional gripings about how people tend to ignore other ports. Well that's just the truth of the situation, and it may never change. But if I were really doing this to be popular I'd have quit a long time ago. I, and I'm pretty sure SoM will agree, do this because I love doing it. If other people like it and find use of it too, then that's just more to love.

We cannot let this bickering get out of hand; it will lead down roads this community doesn't need to travel.
