I found it actually pretty good, at least for a handheld game.
The accelerometer-based controls are pretty acceptable and are also a nice way to play a rail shooter that otherwise would be too easy with multitouch. Come to think of it, it's curiously odd how this limitation improves gameplay by making it slightly less practical.
The graphics did remind me of the Voodoo2 screenshots boris mentioned, but they are definitely better. Bigger textures on an iPhone than a Voodoo 2 could manage, now that's impressive.
The levels and the models are surprisingly detailed, although they do seem to have spared memory on the animations because they run at a lower frame than than that of the game. If you've played the original GLQuake on a recent computer you'll know what that looks like.
