You're telling that to guys like Anders, myk, Graf Zahl and others who have been around forever and are aware of that, but different moments of controversy or "review criticism" don't all have the same causes.
It's important to discern between differences of opinion, controversial topics and a lack of competence.
Perhaps, but it all leads to the same end position: people inevitably being upset/annoyed/disappointed with a newstuff review. My point was simply that we should not pretend that the last newstuff setup was all rainbows and puppydogs, there will always be problems regardless of how newstuff is done.
myk said:The real problem is a lack of review submissions. If everyone were fighting to submit reviews, Bloodshedder could reject lame ones without being concerned that it will postpone the Chronicles any further. As for the hybrid solution you proposed, if people hardly submit a first opinion, why would they submit a second?
This is speaking from the guy who said that he had to drop Scythe X because of time commitments? I can't speak for you, but personally whenever I browse the newstuff review system thingy most of the interesting wads are already taken and its only the skins or whatnot that left. All I'm saying is give the option to some respected members of the community to be exempt from time limits, to be exempt from having to wonder if a certain wad has already been claimed and reviewed. The past system broke down because those chosen for newstuff reviews were simply unable to commit to reviewing 10+ wads a week. Tap a few people on the shoulder and give them the option of reviewing any maps that they choose and you should get some quality to return to newstuff.
TimeOfDeath:
Even "respected" doomers have different tastes. If a slaughter wad was made for demo recording, even many demo recorders would hate it because they hate slaughter maps.
And I mention that in my original post! Sure its not full proof, but surely having 2 opinions is better than one?
Patrick:
That's why we have the comment thread, if a Wad got a bad/crappy review, then comments can be posted about the true quality of the WAD. Why don't people write better reviews (like mine for instance) of wads in these comment threads instead of HURRRR MR FREEZE SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO REVIEW DURRR.
Yet you have someone like esselfortium saying that he really isn't looking forward to releasing his wad when newstuff dishes up the reviews that it does. Lets be honest, many many people only read the initial newstuff post and dont go into the comments. All I'm saying is give the option to some respected community members to be able to write 2nd opinions.
