Here's my suggestion:

It's best to just make a comment on how one felt about the WAD in the thread rather than how "the review sucks."

I second this. If you want to say anything about the review, just limit it to one or two words, like "Disagree" or "slightly disagree", and then, WITHOUT MENTIONING THE REVIEWER/REVIEW, proceed to give your personal brief review. That would save time, and make the newstuff comments that much more useful.

So far, I kinda like d2reload, but I'm on medium difficulty. I like the new different concepts. Let's see how the rest of it is...

Myk said exactly what I've been saying for the last few newstuffs. If you don't think a review was fair, then tell people what you think of the wad. I re-reviewed Scythe 2 when it the review was inaccurate. Seriously, if you don't like a review .... write your own!

Yes, it's a right point.

But as for me, as for first in this thread, who sayed that word about where the bee... I'm simply not able for complex speaking on English. And so, from two available options - keep silence or shoot in "trollish" style I choose second.

Yea I was kinda getting english wasn't your strong point after you posted the russian demos. I'll admit that when a map challenges me and I'm not ready for it/not expecting it, I'll whine, so if you see me whine about something again remind me of this thread and I'll come to my senses ;)

I didn't add this to my previous post cause I had stuff to do (and still do actually -.-) but I liked maps5, 6, and am getting my butt kicked on 7 right now, but I haven't given enough runs to it (plus my preferred port is skulltag not prboom ...). BTW I might as well post that first demo attempt for MAP05, I was getting settled into prboom again and made some stupid mistakes the first 4 runs but made it the last time. I'm tempted to do some more because demo recording is fun ;)

Nothing really to say about the reviews themselves that hasn't already been said.

To be blunt, reading this and then finding this gem in the text file:

strikes me as a very lazy and user-unfriendly attitude of the creator, especially when you consider that the version in question is almost 2 years old and has already been updated twice.

Mega-fail in my book!

Being enrolled full-time at the University as well as working a forty-hour-a-week job, I don't have the time nor the energy to dedicate to tinkering with Doom wads anymore. I started work on this WAD back in October of '07. Hence, why the version used is two years old. I simply kept testing with version 2.2.0 because it worked. Originally, it was just going to be a single level, but gradually it grew and grew into this miniature project I took on as a sort of a last hoorah in map making; since my life is changing so drastically, games have to take the backseat for now. If I had known that there would be compatibility issues, I would have rectified the situation sooner, but, as previously mentioned, I simply do not have the time to go back and rework eleven levels to fit with the updated versions of ZDoom. If it is too much of an inconvenience to find and download the version mentioned in the text file, then don't play the wad -- or at least expect there to be bugs and accept my sincerest apologies for your disappointing gameplay experience.

Have to agree with the Doom 2 Reloaded review. It's really just not that great. I didn't even read the review before downloading it, so I gave it an unbiased play, and it really is just average most of the time, and often frustrating.

Expecting ass-kissing on every map that shows up here is nonsense. Maybe some people here just have lower standards .. :P

I downloaded d2reload after reading the review, and I strongly disagree with the review. I'm on map 08, playing skill 3, and it has been great fun so far. Sure some of the textures seem out of place, but some of them are great IMHO. The architecture is terrific, and I'm not bored one bit.

If my own maps would turn out the way I envision them in my mind, they would look a lot like d2reload.

Anybody knows how to go past the 30 second door in map32 of Doom 2 reloaded (without running)?

See Miscellaneous demos or Doom DSDA :)

Edit: Ops, didn't read yet I answered... without running - no idea. So the question remains.

OK, I think I got it (SOME running will be a handicap, but I managed to do it "stroller" style, no shift key, no strafing).

spoiler - highlight to read:

Turn around. Go to the lift and ride it up. Go to the next lift, exit the lift mid-way (there is a passage to your right between top and bottom). As soon as you open the thin door, SHOOT. This should awaken former humans who will activate the WR line for you. If you follow the walls to your right in the comp blue maze, you should reach the dead end. Wait here. The lift should lower activated by monsters. Turn left. Voila!

PM me if demo is needed. Maybe some more options are possible?

OK, thanks, I can open the 3rd secret, with this clue or running, but I couldn’t open the 4th secret, the 30 second door.

For those of you shooting it down for w/e reason (eg. not having random layouts with lots of detail and no tougher monsters until map 07 etc.) let's see your 32-map megawad.

That's a terrible argument and you should feel bad for making it

Not really, the same sort of argument was used to defend the devs on the ZDoom forums a while back when someone asked if a new dev was needed. Besides, how would you feel if you spent months/years making a megawad only to see it flamed in public like this one has been here? (not counting constructive criticism, which is fair enough)

Yes really. I read movie reviews in the local paper. Obviously this person isn't a director/producer or anything, so he doesn't have the right to review movies? Hate to break it to you but time doesn't make something good. I don't care how much time was spent on it, that's meaningless to me as a player. If I'm not having fun, then it sucks. I don't play wads because someone sat in front of an editor for 8 months or 8 years. I play them cause I want to have a good time.

"Same sort of argument"? Maybe. I don't remember everything that everyone said in that thread; though from my recollection the "same sort of argument" was more about the availability of extra developers, or lack thereof, rather than about the "if you're not happy try to do better yourself" saw as you claim. Same sort of issue? Only if reviews were arguing that a released mod needs to have another mapper to participate...

See, wad reviews will go "this is cool" or "this is lame", but not generally "this needs to have someone else help the author".

The thread you reference was not a review at all.

Last time I checked you can't rule over 40oz's opinion.

Good reviews. Love the amount of screenshots.

With that logic you can't invalidate his opinion neither.

I agree with Mr. Freeze. The wad is much more solid than what 40oz said. It has some flaws, but it's a very solid work. I hope to see more from him in the future.

I like D2-Reloaded. It looks great without being super detail-y, and the maps aren't carbon-copies of generic megawad-ness. True, the gameplay can be slightly annoying at times (blame the archies), but I actually enjoy mowing through scores of zombies with a chaingun. :P

Also whoalycrap birthday.
