Oh look, it's that damn cake again. I guess you know what that means. Yes, today marks the day 16 years ago when Doom shareware was uploaded to the University of Wisconsin's FTP server. And for the past six years, we at Doomworld have graced our readers with a new feature highlighting the year's best releases, as nominated by you and chosen by Scuba Steve.

This year, we are proud to present The 16th Annual Cacowards. Also, please don't take the logo image as a stab against Asians. I'm sure Scuba Steve didn't mean it that way.

I'm still reading but so far I'm really enjoying it. I've still got a few of those awarded projects to play through sometime. And it was nice to see the side-tribute to Espi.

Seems like another great wrap-up to a good year of Doom. I think I particularly like the fact that this time I did actually play at least half of the best wads for the year.

The worst wad award mirrors my own thoughts on the matter perfectly - I've been pointing out the problems with telling people they should detail as if that's all that matters to T667 for a while now.

Congratulations to all award recepients, particularly Mechadon for his efforts overall. Well done to the team for doing it within two hours of the end of the birthday for those of us here in the UK as well :P

Awesooooome! I was just playing LOS before this and goddamn, glad to see it in the Cacowards.

I believe I joined this site shortly after Espi's passing. I've gone through a few of his wads now and having not done so yet, I just wanted to pay my respects. He deserved all the praise that he got.

A very interesting read through. Mechadon was also my pick for mapper of the year by miles. I'd love to see Mechadon make a WOS like megawad one day.

I'm actually surprised to get a Cacoward this year. I mean everyone (meaning scuba and essel :P) kept telling me Mapgame was good, but that good? :P

A bit disappointing that Greenwar2 didn't win best multiplayer but oh well UDMX is just as awesome. also...
