I liked LoS's gameplay, simply because of how much fun it is to mow down hordes of monsters with the quad shotgun.

QFT. Though that one bit with dozens of barons and stuff pissed me off more than once.

Also, I still haven't played the hell level due to it running beyond shit on my comp. The rest of the mod plays fine EXCEPT for that.

Hi everybody,

I apologize in advance for any (unwanted) bad formatting of my post, but I am new to the forums.
I have read the not-so-stellar review of my mod "Revenge" (rslvenge.zip)... Provided that I perfectly understand its rationale and I respect the tastes of the reviewer, I would just like to point out a couple of things:

- from the /newstuff review and those on the IDGames archive, I understand that many didn't like the fact of having to reload even for single-round weapons (i.e. ssg, rocket launcher...). That's why I included the option of having automatic reload in the second release, but I guess this has unfortunately gone unnoticed.

- the reviewer omitted to try all the weapons - in fact, one last magical weapon was not mentioned by the review. I setup a simple GZDOOM console code to quickly obtain the whole arsenal for playtesting; while the decision to playtest with old, well-known maps and without cheats was surely the best one, the rarest weapon couldn't be evaluated anyway.

To sum it up: please (briefly) read the textfile! :-)

Thanks anyway for the review. I hope my other two mods "The Prototype" and "The Rebel" can do a little better...

One of the hardest Doom 2 maps ever? Possibly, but Titan 2 map 07 still holds the title of hardest. Once you look past the start - which can be solved by running for the secret (I managed to get there with 6% :p), waiting for the infighting to stop (which cleared the starting area) and doing the megasphere trap with movement/infighting (got out with 180%-ish) then it's not so bad from there (except for the key traps). Disturbia was more impressive from a challenge perspective...you can even run out of ammo at times if you're not careful. (or if you forget about one of the yellow locked stashes like I did, which resulted in the fisting of a few archies down the pit later on :p)

the Chaingun is often neglected in slaughtermaps

On the contrary, I find it and the shotgun to be very important at times.

CITY OF THE DAMNED APOCALYPSE One of the best graphic replacements for Doom I've seen for classic doom. It looks sounds and feels more like hexen or heretic. I have to play it through because of the level number listed and the fact that map02 isn't a new map, so warping won't help!

I think it feels kinda like Blood. But hey, that's just my crazy opinion.

You're all fucking retarded. It's clearly meant to be a lot like Doom 3 which means it's nothing but a shitty rip off of System Shock 2 and doesn't even deserve to be on the archives.

Titan 2 map 07 ?
Owh, with all those Invulnerabilities, space to dodge, Skulltag Minigun, BFG9000 easily obtainable and Cell packs everywhere, nah, it's not that hard I think :>
Plus it's a (G)ZDoom wad, you can still jump everywhere and not get cornered.
But okay, I guess people have different views on what difficulty is.

No Chance and Disturbia are way harder imho.
But of course it doesn't mean it's more fun.

I'll try to upload a demo of Titan 2 once I'm done with exams.

In slaughtermaps really ?
Nah, in maps like Plutonia's Go 2 It, HR24, HR32 and maps 02, 03 and 04 of Deus Vult, sadly those weapons collect dust. Maybe to finish off the weaker monsters, but that's all.
Yet again I wouldn't use that Disturbia Super-Chaingun in those maps as well :p

--
Mr. Freeze : You really need an automap on LOS ?
Maps are short and pretty linear imho.

Probably not when the monsters just mill around not shooting at you that much, try it with -fast and it's a different story ;)

that Titan 2 map still took me a couple of goes to suss out. Once I did, though, that first big arena was a piece of cake ;) Still love it, though - one of my favourite levels.

Hell Ground, on ther other hand ...

... needs more Archies :P

Just played Disturbia for the first time. I've previously said of Elysion that it's "possibly [Death-Destiny's] finest work" but now I may need to reevaluate my rankings.

I can't figure out how to play the demo included with Disturbia without having it desync. It was recorded with Prboom+ 2.4.8.2 (the text file just says "PrBoom V2.4.8.2" without a plus but I don't think that such a version of PrBoom exists) and it desyncs for me on 2.5.0.3 both at default complevel and at -complevel 9.

EDIT: Even running PrBoom+ 2.5.0.6 with -emulate 2.4.8.2 doesn't work. I don't know what else to try.

I bet it was recorded using a previous version of the PWAD.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

For a moment I was thinking "This wad came out in 2008, right? Maybe one of these out-of-date mirrors still has some older version of it." Then I remembered that I downloaded this level because it's in /newstuff. SO MUCH FOR THAT

@ Creaphis : I recall the demo works well on my comp, the wad is called "DisturbiaV4" and the demo "DisturbiaV4HMPMax" or something. It's an old copy I've got at the release time, and the bad reviewer who is me didn't bother to check what version had been actually uploaded on the /idgames archive ( maybe it's an outdated one ).

I'll post a checksum on the wad and stuff once I'm back home, or maybe a rapidshare link if you want.

Cool :) Sorry I was not too glowing in my opinion of the gameplay department, however the rest was top notch and I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with Episode 2.

Also I hope my screenshots were somewhat informative. I tried to convey the transition of themes whilst capturing some memorable areas at the same time.

Mystery solved - the wad in the archive is DisturbiaV4 (Mk2). I have the older V4 (dated 20-Jul-08) if anyone wants/needs a copy.

Yeah, I had read that thread. Essentially, Death-Destiny thought he had restored the WAD to a state that would be compatible with demos recorded with an earlier (version 4) build, but not really.

Well I'm glad that's solved. I don't care much by this point, but I guess if someone sent me the old version that would be pretty cool.

No need to apologise. Wouldn't want you to lie. :p I certainly could have done a better job with balancing the skill levels.
