No.

I would care to tell others why, though.

An anonymous system ensures that all reviews are read, as opposed to the author ignoring those reviewers who are often more critical. Or some reviewers' advice may not be heeded because of an author's opinion of that reviewer. An anonymous system prevents that.

How about partial-anonymity? There's a hidden data field that records IP addresses, why not add another one for member names?

There's nothing stopping anyone from exercing some quality control themselves by simply skipping the one word "crap" or "awesum!" reviews.

If you're worried about people eventually downrating your stuff because it's from you, nothing is stopping anybody from uploading wads under different usernames.

I really don't see the "pros" in removing anonymous comments as all the current "cons" can be ignored easily. Forcing people to log-in would lead to less comments, as people wouldn't necessarily bother ; then you also have the guys who wouldn't comment anything negative if it was tied to their username, and while I personally think the "tough but fair" tripe is just that, there's occasionally words of wisdom in all the negativity.

Except that if a mapper's name has become respected because of his talents then he can't just create a new one because it would restart his legacy.

And who knows, maybe I'm wrong. But that's extremely unlikely because I'm always right.

I think 40oz may have been being a bit harsh on cjwright's WADs, but only because I found calisas to be alright (even if all but 1 of the levels have been seen before and he'd only actually fixed/altered one of them) and dormous was pretty good for what it was. Wright's maps are in need of some serious quality control, but I reckon the stuff there makes for fairly good raw material (not that we don't already have enough of that from the mid 90s).

It's mostly because I was getting anxious to see that UAC Ultra get's reviewed so I wanted to speed up the /newstuff process. The first of his maps I played was Darkstalkers, which I didn't find to bad. It started to get annoying when the newstuff directory was getting jampacked with chris wright maps that weren't being reviewed. The output of his maps are high but the quality doesn't improve, which lead to my "I should expect better from you given all these releases" attitude.

You guys remember Ruba's maps right? They were 'average' at first and soon became "FUCK YOU RUBA STOP MAKING MAPS" after 5 or so releases.

If you're respected, what's the use in changing your name?

Respect, is that where everyone is mapping for? I must have been doing it wrong then for all these years.

You know what I mean.

People like begin associated with their work. It gives them a sense of accomplishment.

Those same reviewers are also skewing the star ratings and we know how important they are to some people. ;-)

Forcing people to log-in would lead to less comments, as people wouldn't necessarily bother
I suspect most of the people using the database have already registered on the forums, if access to the comment system was tied to a persistent cookie then much of the time it mightn't be necessary to login.

then you also have the guys who wouldn't comment anything negative if it was tied to their username
That's why I mentioned hidden data fields, the poster could remain anonymous to the general public but not to the admins.

They weren't. "Every" artifact I placed I myself thought of a number of possible scenarios of where they can be used. I actually had some artifacts moved to better illustrate that they weren't the one way out of a given situation. There are options.
In any case, they were fewer than I was used to with other WADs. But perhaps I should go play them completely, now that I have better tech, and not complain.
