Is is possible to get external music (ogg) file playback in Eternity?
I've looked over the wiki and searched for posts/documentation about
this and can't find anything.

As far as I know you can't put music in a folder to load, but you can put OGGs in a wad file and have Eternity load the wad. You can either use an EMAPINFO lump to redefine the music for each map, or much more easily just name the OGG lumps D_RUNNIN, D_STALKS, etc. to match the Doom2 songs they're replacing.

Ah, and i don't suppose there's a way to do it through edf or similar?
Might try hacking it in myself, then. I've given up on midi on here
aside from opl emulation.

Well, you can drop the music wad into /base/doom2/autoload/ to autoload it, if that's what you mean.

Nah, I just didn't want to have to go cramming them all into a wad :p.

Edit: Wow, much more confusing/in-depth than I'd anticipated; don't
think i can do it. Consider this a feature request for a future
version.
