I sincerely would like to allay people's fears by saying that this sort of situation in a vast majority of cases has a very sound and logical explanation... but I'm racking my brain trying to think of one. :-(

All I can come up with is some very far-fetched scenario, such as: a relative of his in a remote town fell gravely ill very suddenly and he had to immediately catch a flight/train/bus to rush to their side (and has since been too preoccupied to keep in touch)? A relative of his visiting a foreign country has become kidnapped and he had to immediately go there? He has been forced underground (or into a witness protection program)?

I hope he's alive and well.

Damn my heart sunk when I saw the changed thread title. My view on suicide (except for the terminally ill in agony) is it lets the assholes in this world win. This is just a shock to hear that Amaster is gone.

Jason was a true friend. You could talk to him about anything and he would never criticize or make you feel silly. I cannot believe what a tragic and unnecessary end that his life has reached, and I only wish I could understand what made him feel so hopeless. Most of all I wish I could have had the chance to tell him not to do it. I too had once taken the decision of life or death into my own hands, unable to see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Had I made the wrong choice then, so many positive things would have never happened to me.

But now it is too late. We are left behind to grieve the senseless loss of a genuinely good person. It's almost more than I can bear.

For Assmaster: I hope that you have found the peace that somehow eluded you in life, my friend. I'm sorry I didn't take more time to let you know just how much I thought of you.

this sux. I didn't know the guy personally (although finding out he was a fellow new yorker makes me regret not getting to know him) I knew of him and he will be missed. my condolences to his family and friends.

it's wierd though. I've been in the community for quite a while now and, although I feel a kinship with many of the people who post here, I haven't gotten to really know anyone. everybody has just been a screen name and an avatar to me. this tragedy makes all you guys more real to me.

I had the chance to spend several days with Jason up in Seattle. He was just as amusing and fun to be around in person as he was online. It's hard to believe that he would have gone this way. I found myself writing "is" rather than "was" in that second sentence.

wait...someone said that the last time they talked to him he was in "high spirits"...but now we learn that he commited suicide?

What could drive a person to do that...one can only wonder...

Wow. Good God, this is terrible.

I don't even traverse these forums that often, I only knew of him. But to hear someone, anyone, who was a friend to someone else die in such a matter is horribly tragic.

I barely knew the guy, but it's more than just a damn shame he's gone. It was... Unnecessary that he take his own life like this. Does anyone even know why, what could possess him to do this to himself?

No conclusions are being jumped to. We are certain that he is gone. It is always tempting to think that "well maybe it's an elaborate hoax on the scale of the JFK conspiracy theories." But in the end you have to be realistic.

Actually Jason made a post to the Losers forum on the 14th at 3:00ish that just said "Heh" -- it was part of a "heh chain" thread. That was his true final post here.

Has anyone found out why or how yet? More importantly the why though. I just don't understand it.

I feel confused on how I should feel. I barely even knew him, and yet, i still feel really bad about this. I mean, why would he take his own life? What drove him to it? What wasn't he telling us? I wish there was a better way, because I can tell you now, this hasn't done anyone any good. I just hope he had a good reason why.
