I know girls in strip clubs, and stars of XXX movies make money, but what about the thousands of amateurs that are littered all over sites that are free and always available? Are the photographers and videographers making money posting that stuff up for free? What about the girls posing for the pictures and videos? Where's the income come from?

Seriously though the only reason to be involved in this sort of thing is to recieve some profit. I assume for amatures, however, that the profit is pretty shitty. It probably isnt their only job. It doesent take an education to go about fucking other people.

I had a buddy that worked in porn for a while. Depending on what state you work for, your payed by the video or by the shoot. California appearently is the place to work if your a guy while the east coast i'm told is always looking for girls. As for amateur stuff, many of them are told that they are being set up for trial shoots and sign wavers so they don't have to be paid. Hence the term, amateur.

Me and some girl (that i met on a _chan, actually) where planning on setting up a half-arsed, non-profit "Suicide boys"* site. I even took some pics of myself that are now hosted on my own webspace, taking up 0.5p of however much i pay for hosting. But we just kind of drifted apart and didnt organise aything properly

I was casted in an independent zombie movie once. From what I learned, a lot of loser wanna-be directors, including the one I worked for, usually resort to making porn after their crappy projects don't take off. So, amateur pornstars are basicsally indie film actors, at least around here.

For most of the chicks they're willing to start anywhere and hope they can suck and fuck their way into a huge production company. There's a nice reality show called webdreams that follows around and chronicles fledging amateurs and pornographers. Some chicks are just like "LOL Paris Hilton did it! Where's teh camera and cock?" Then there's that guy who produces Girls Gone Wild who got the brilliant idea to get them really hammered and sign the waiver forms before shooting.

Alot of productions nowadays are being shot in Eastern European countries. The women are just as gorgeous and you don't have to pay them as much. Then there's the cases where the director grabs the North American talent and shoots in Budapest for alot less money.

I knew a guy who did some (gay, but on top) porn once and said it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. You know how they change angle in porn? they only have one camera, so you have to stop and yet remain hard while they move it about and re-set-up the lighting etc. And even then it looks stupid and i rarely fap to that kind anyway and actually prefer webcam or "three people" (two in bed, a third with a DV camera hovering around) stuff anyway, but there's certianly less money in that than in the "real thing".

However she lived in Wales and the lead guy was actually gay and moved to London, so that didnt come off, surprise surprise.

I've never been in porn but I volunteered to be in my roommates experimental film where I was in boxers 90% of the time. The other 10% or so is a flashback of shots with this girl all over me in bed but the twist is I can't get it up (no nudity/hardcore though). In the end of the film it turns out I'm gay. It was done fully with still pictures, no actual video.

Anyway, yeah, the scenes with the girl were a bit awkward (but not really) because I knew her and we're good friends. So that made it awkward but less awkward at the same time. I don't want to sound like the resident porno freak, but the other technique is a more consistant shoot with two or more cameras, and they just recycle the different angles as separate scenes to make the video longer.

Even with non pornographic film the multi camera setup is relatively standard. Budget permitting of course for additional camera(s) and cinematographer(s). Porn scenes generally are lit and shot all position based.

For each position it's more or less:

Master shot: Establishing shot of all actors in view.

Close ups: For capturing all those porno faces on SA and felatio.

Inserts: For close up genitalia action. In tradition film it's meaning isn't as literal.

There's actually more to it then just those three but the topic of camera shots, angles, and lighting is a vast lengthy topic worthy of it's own thread.

Most likely yes, even if you're only considering profit. It's hard to be on time and produce a good porno if your star actor is out with the clap. Then there are aesthetics to consider. Warts aren't pretty! Even diseases that take time, such as AIDS, are dangerous because it can infect all of your actors. Then again, that's only if you plan on using the same actor for 20 years or so, which rarely happens. It's possible in softcore productions where they don't show penetration that they use condoms, or there is no penetration at all.

That said, a lot of actors do end up getting STIs. There have been quite a few pornstars who have died from AIDS, too.

That was mostly in the 80s when people didn't know what the Hell AIDS was. Since then, the industry has been extremely regulated in regard to monitoring STDs. There was an incident a couple years back where some porn star did a shoot in Brazil where he got AIDS and spread it around a bit in the States before they caught it. It was HUGE news, even outside the industry because it hadn't happened in over a decade.

I've known quite a few girls that have their own sites.
