Guys, Butts is playing you for fools. He's deliberately saying ignorant things to get you to yell at him, then backpedaling while laughing to himself. And since he came right out and said this:
Butts said:
no one will ever be able to convince me that im wrong either.
just forget about responding to him.
As for marriage, fuck yeah. I think anything should be able to marry anything. For serious. The idealistic side of society taught me that religion was a union of two (or hell, more than two) people who loved each other. I never understood why it was limited to heterosexuals. Secondly, know your history, folks. Marriage did not start as a religious ceremony. It wasn't until the 1500s - and mostly because of the Catholic Church - that marriage took on a religious overtone. It had existed for a couple of thousand years, albeit in different forms, and was officially called marriage I think in the Roman Empire sometime in the 4th century. Same sex marriages were outlawed around the same time the term came into existence. Intolerance discriminates against no time period. So guess what? Marriage is not exclusively Christian, and never has been. And then, far after all this happened, the state had to go and get involved, so now it's beneficial to get married. What a fucking mess that is. I think anyone should be able to get a legal marriage, or civil union, or whatever you want to call it, and it should impart all the benefits that marriage in its current form does. I personally do not believe something like this should be called marriage, because when I think marriage, I don't think a bunch of legal shit should be involved. Marriage has been perverted in the last four or five hundred years into a way to oppress anyone who is not heterosexual or chooses to stay single.
So yeah, have a legal union, where there's a bunch of paperwork to fill out and all that so everyone has access to the same rights, and then have a separate ceremony called marriage, and it can be religious or not but most importantly, strictly a ceremony with no legal involvement. That way, people can choose just one or the other or both. Alex out.
