Haven't gotten so used to saving except in some games, but if I could name, most of them would contain my internet name in Merith, Merithor, Mithral Link, or Shadow Mithral, but also a number depending on game.

I have my default save files, and my 'risky' save files.

The default is usually titled after the game, or the mod I'm using. 'Risky' saves are the ones I make if I'm about to die, and don't want to save over my good file. I usually title them "justincase", "uhoh", or "fucked".

I only save in Doom these days if I am leaving the session. Getting alot more used to the pistol starts and the thrill of actually not wanting to die. When I do save it's the .wad name. For example; Doom2, AV, Nimrod etc.

In RTS games I save by mission number followed by the save number. Haven01 1 for instance. For RPG's I give more detailed info such as name of character(s) or their role(s) (sorcerer, druid etc.), level and location.

Yeah, for Doom I just use the wad name(s).

I remember using a lot of funny descriptions for my Fallout/2 saves back in the day. Can't remember most of them off hand, but they usually had something to do with the location and/or what I had just done.

I've developed a system since I have so many different quicksave-able games. For source ports and custom Doom levels, I type the folder (project) name and a number corresponding the difficulty.
For example, "scythe 0" means my scythe save on ITYTD. "scythe 1" is HNTR, etc.

For most other FPS games, I just put DeumReaper unless the difficulty is not easy to identify after starting; then I put DR P, for Doom 3 this would be DeumReaper on Private difficulty, DR TNAWT, for Heretic this would be DeumReaper on Thou Needst a Wet Nurse difficulty.

For doom wads usually the name of the map/project that I am playing. For any other game just an few random keys, or my first name followed by an number.

Typically the wad I'm playing, or a shortening of the name. Occasionally I come up with random shit or something based on what's happening in the wad, i.e. one of my save games is named "Smugla is not safe" :P
