It really is sold on nostalgia and effects. Nothing they did in the grid was new enough for me to be really wowed by it, especially after all the films in the 28 years since that have done the cyberspace thing. The lack of a clear purpose/direction for the ending hurt it a lot imho. Oh well. It was fun while I was there.

So exactly like the original, then? Awesome!

I thought it was a great movie. The theme, story, atmosphere and OST really went hand in hand I think, and the games were fun to watch. Watching it in 3D is pointless though, I could hardly tell the difference.

It said right before the movie started that some scenes would be in 2D. It turns out that it was most of them, except for the action scenes. The parts that were in 3D were nice, but yeah, 3D still isn't worth it.

As for the movie itself, when I saw that Dillinger kid, I was expecting him and/or his father to be the main villain(s)...you know, the whole revenge thing, but he was reduced to a cameo instead. And they could have completely done without those ISOs or whatever they were, and it likely would have changed very little plotwise. The action and game scenes were good and nostalgic (did anyone catch the old light cycle start-up sound right before the game?), however a new game or two would have been good too.

One minor thing though...that one scene in one of the older trailers (that light cycle chase scene) didn't seem to make it into the movie.

Scenes in the real-life segments were 2D, while most of The Grid sequences were 3D. Not that it matters, the 3D scenes were unnoticeable and really only illustrated slight depth and were more of an eyesore then anything.

Not understanding the complaints about the soundtrack, I thought it was spot on. I guess if you're not a Daft Punk fan, you can take some consolation in the fact that it looked like they were still in the building when it exploded.

Really need to see the original again now, it's been years.

This. It wasn't quite as good as the original, but still very enjoyable. I'm going to try seeing it in the theatre once more...

Let me know when you've actually watched the original. The scene where Flynn enters the computer for the first time has more color in it than this entire movie.

Well, yeah. That part was in psychadelic technicolor, but all the computer scenes were shot in black and white and touched up with blue and red painted over the film (or however they did that back in the day). Also of note is the random cells that were semi-ruined by being overly brightened, which they covered up by putting computer stuff going off in the background at random intervals. I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out to me.

Anyway, long story short, that was part of the charm of the film originally...the simple color schemes they used. However, if all they did with this film was add blue/gray filters or whatever, then I guess I can see a bit of a problem. Anyway, I won't pass judgment until I get to see it, which will be after the holidays are over, as I am much too busy now.

I enjoyed her character, I think part of the reasoning behind her dialogue/dull personality is the fact that she

spoiler - highlight to read:

isn't really human, and has no idea how to act and speak around the users, like when she laughs at inappropriate times and in the end scene when shes curious about everything around her in the real world.

Come to think of it, I'm sure it was the dumb glasses. I'm going to see it again without the 3d shit.

I did not see the original tron movie (or rather I have memories of it but I was too young to understand that the mish-mash I was watching was tron.) Anyway, I hope that movie was better than this one, because this one really sucked.

Also no, I did not see it in 3d. I very much doubt it would have made a difference.

I always found the original one more of an interesting movie rather than a really good one. It's fun to watch mostly because it's so weird, the atmosphere is totally unique and all the colours are pretty. Also, Bruce Boxleitner has been way underrated for a long time.

I'm going to see it in 2D. I've heard there's been a LOT of quality variance with 3D showings, as in people who've seen it multiple times in different theaters are saying it looks like two completely different movies. 3D still has a long way to come, it seems... and for how much it costs, I'm not going to risk a shoddy viewing.

I'm liking most of the album, but it's dependent on too few techniques, so it'll probably be boring in about 2 weeks. Still, I was surprised to find out Daft Punk isn't actually a punk band, so maybe I'll listen to some other stuff by them.

Also give Justice a try as they're basically the same thing as Daft Punk.

Good idea, the 3d was lame. There are a lot of scenes that show up the shortcomings of current 3d technology (basically anything with a distinct background and foreground, things in the foreground look tiny.)

Did anybody else realize that the boston terrier video clip that showed when the chairman of emco tried to open the new program, happened after that scene? It's in the apartment, where Flynn meets up with that old guy with the glasses, and as Flynn is leaving, the dog runs up and barks, exactly like the clip showed before hand at the meeting. ??? And at the very end when Flynn leaves the grid and meets the same guy in the arcade, and he says "You paged me?" ??? I confuse.

Finally saw it tonight. I have to say it's easily the best movie I've seen in a very long time, and the soundtrack was amazing. In fact, I've already downloaded it and am listening to it now. It had this weird sort of timeless feel to it like it got stuck somewhere between the 80s and today, which even ties in with the plot a bit. I thought the cinematography was perfect...the colors really drove the themes of the movie home, and the pacing was more something I'd expect from an older movie (which is good from my perspective). Also, I didn't mind Quorra that much. She was a much more believable character than most movie heroines these days, and I liked her even more than Yori from the original movie.
