I don't think I'd be able to strike up a list of bands or performers sizable enough to be likened to some of the ones here. What I do think however is that most any piece of music or song writing, including ones that I might ordinarily dislike, can be made to sound pretty decent when you're behind the pick. Not because you yourself can better the piece, but because it's really just a matter of properly engaging with the music.
Actually, speaking of 'engagement', I like to think that there's a inextricable similarity between rock music, punk, or perhaps any kind of music which sounds 'raw' in the sense that it hasn't been heavily manipulated by synth or something, and eating food with your hands. Both are messy and intimate; the music is sometimes slightly muddled or off tune (such as with Dylan. It's sounds all the better for it I reckon) just as the food never makes a clean entry (try it with pasta!).
The result is that it's just more enjoyable to listen to because there isn't some intercepting medium between the music and you.
Just a little food for thought(!).
