I honestly don't know why people who don't care feel the need to chime in. I mean, I know there are bigger things going on in the world, what with the Haiti disaster, amongst other things. Does it bother you so much that we're making a fuss? If so, why? I mean, shouldn't you just be comfortable in the fact that you don't get it and move on?

I identify with Conan's humor a lot. His self-degrading stuff is spectacular, and that's what really makes him work: he KNOWS his humor is predictable. The way he plays it off, though, turns something unfunny into something that makes me laugh. For that, I respect the man. And when someone I respect gets the cold shoulder for no good reason, well... it bothers me. I watched his show all of the time, and as such, I'm disappointed to see him go.

But that's what I'm doing now. I didn't know what the fuss was about, and I figured that there may be something worth getting excited over. I asked, found out and now I'm moving on, slightly bemused that so many people can care about a not-particularly-special TV host leaving a show.

And even more so. My friends and I are avid Conan fans and we very plainly and simply identify with the man and how he does humor. As I have stated before to my friends while discussing this: He is one of us, a flag-bearer of sorts. In short: he is special, a hell of a lot more special than any other television personality I have ever watched,

The thing about Conan is that he always makes me laugh, at least once a show. Hell, I could even say at least 20 times per show. Back when I was fighting depression, his show was one of the few things keeping me from killing myself. No matter how miserable of a day I was having, I could always kick back at the end of the day and be guaranteed some laughs from watching him. And that is why I love him and am going to miss him for the next 7 months.

Yeah, I think that's a good way of putting it. He's an excellent anti-depressant. I enjoy watching him even when his jokes go flat. And sure, a lot of his jokes do. But there's only so much you can do when you're putting out five shows a week on a shoestring budget.

Some of his best jokes are when a skit or part of the monologue goes flat and he quickly reacts with a self deprecating remark or comment on how bad the skit is. It really shows how sharp and on form he is when he does a bit of improv.

I loved the bit where he did that Focus Group for seniors. X3

I wonder how many people in the Conan generation of viewers have given up on tv almost entirely. When I was younger I stayed up for Conan all the time. Nowadays, by 11:30pm I'm pooped. Also, when I got a place of my own, I had the choice of not hooking up my tv to cable or dish, and just say fuck it. That's exactly what I did. I'd rather watch an episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd than some shitty network drama with wooden actors that look like models. When I actually cared about tv, I was pretty into Conan, and liked Letterman enough, but I always hated Leno, very unfunny man. He's for the older, much older crowd, who like inoffensive 'entertainment' that doesn't clash with their old fashioned thinking. Most of these people also love American Idol. Some values there...

I normally only watch television after 10:00 (central time as our TV programs come on an hour earlier than either coast) when The Daily Show airs. Likewise, I dropped cable because of it's obnoxious pricing and every episode of TDS/The Colbert Report is online now, anyways. I hate most TV in general, so this fiasco means that I pretty much don't need a TV except for movies and games. I also used to watch hockey and baseball, but the radio serves just as well for those.

So I guess the short version is: I have given up on TV, but I wasn't really into it in the first place.

The only reason I was able to watch Conan the last few weeks was because I'm living with my dad right now and he pays for cable. When I was living on my own, I could never justify spending fucking $100/month for the 3-4 shows I'd watch. I basically ended up not watching TV altogether, which is the only reason I stopped watching Conan (though I did for a while on our rabbit ears when I first moved out).

Why would you need cable to watch NBC?

...Nevermind, I guess it makes some sort of sense. I guess I kind of go the other way about it. I don't have a television because I'm only interested in a few shows and don't want to be one of those people who "watch television" rather than watching specific shows. Anyway, you can just download whatever you want to watch nowadays.

Well, I'd have to buy digital rabbit ears if I wanted to watch any kind of network TV.

Yeah, I watch most TV on my computer these days. Either from stuff like Hulu, from downloading stuff from torrent sites, or from buying DVDs to watch on it. I don't really even see a point to owning a TV, though I think my dream entertainment center would basically be a computer with a stereo system and widescreen TV hooked up to it.
