Also, married men more often than not don't take care of themselves, they rely on their woman to do it. So the ads are targeted both to the women who need them, and the women who will say "oh I'll just feed that to my husband and he won't even know!".

If a guy goes fussing over Bifida regularis, that's wussy. But if his wife feeds it to him because she cares about his intestinal activities, that's manly. Or something.

Yeah :-/

I guess that if e.g. Steven Seagal or Bud Spencer were talking about probiotic yogurt, that would cause a lot of insecurity to millions of males around the world.

But still...showing females caring so much about their regularity and trusting it to their best friend...meh.

In Australia it makes sense to market "wellness"* products at women since the average male's more interested in how well their favourite team of overpaid professional athletes is doing than in their own state of health and are more likely to try "toughing out" an ailment instead of seeking treatment.

* Whoever coined that word should be dragged into a back alley and have the wellness beaten out of them.

Danarchy very truthfully said:
Americans are irregular in general because they ingest more chemicals and grease than actual organic nutrients.

Not sure why these ads would target women in general. Maybe manly men WANT to have their bowels impacted.

This is one of the funniest threads I've ever read on the webz.

That being said: For the most part, no, we don't. It's just marketed towards us because we seem like the one's that would give a shit (pun ftw!). Just as alcohol is mostly marketed towards men - Companies feel it's their target audience.

Come to think of it, alcohol has its own gender separation. Beer is what is mostly marketed to men, but then you have hard liquor and wine which often have women as the center of attention. Of course those women are usually skanky and hanging all over the guy who served them but it's still reserving liquor and wine for women and beer for men.

After all, how many girls do you know who LOVE beer? I know guys who don't like beer (or any alcohol for that matter), but I only know a select few girls who actually have a taste for beer. Most of them will be able to enjoy a nice hefeweizen or something else that is light and sweet, but they generally don't care for the more intense beers.

I don't know who you hang around with, but my girlfriend and her friends will down Coors, Bud, Mike's Hard Lemonade, and Samuel Adams. Different strokes for different folks.

One of my ex-es and I had elected Gambrinus as our patron saint. Also because our favourite supermarket brought in those Austrian Gambrinus beer. Gambrinus: the King of Beers indeed :-p

Pussy beers... and Mikes' Hard Lemonade is a cooler.

Lots of females drink beer, but most of the one I've been with at the bars or parties, were drinking coolers and ten dollar novelty drinks. But you can't avoid who they are marketed to.

EDIT: Spelling.

I'm dying to know what you consider a real beer. And if you say Pabst I'm going to crack up.

You outghta see these women, bud. They don't drink beer, they fucking SLAM it. Its actually quite disturbing.

Technician and I are Canadian. Forgive us for finding "SLAMMING" Bud about as impressive as downing milk shots.

The women in my family drink beer but mostly go for ales and lagers. I'll drink pretty much anything but there's a special place in my heart for chocolate and coffee stouts.

From my understanding of the USA posters in here, in the States you must have some pretty shitty beer as the norm or something.

True story, my cousin works at Alcatel-Lucent and they had some exchange people from the States visiting. They went to a pub and one of the women had 3 or 4 of those watered down beers they have on tap (which is why I always go for bottled). Then she tried to get up from her chair. Thankfully someone was close enough to grab her before she fell to the ground.

Makes me wonder what would've happened if those were 3 or 4 proper 6-7% beers.

That's a given. Budwiser, Coors, and Miller are considered a standard but they all taste pretty crummy. Samuel Adams does much better in its own respect as a better beer (not to mention their Winter Lager is also pretty damn good). If me or my friends feel like actually drinking good beer however, we chip in for something like Blue Moon or Yuengling, which taste MUCH better. If I'm feeling really in the mood, I'll pick up a six-pack of Leffe.

Beers like Budwiser are the norm because they are not expensive and still taste better than some cheaper alternatives, such as Natural Ice or Busch. Therefore, people willingly buy it and take it as a "good" beer

I'm not saying they won't drink beer and/or get tanked from it. I still think they would rather drink something else. And those are shitty drinks. Actually Mike's Hard is delicious, because it's lemonade, not beer. :P

Beers I like: Ubu Ale, Guinness, Magic Hat (number 9 mostly), UFO, Dundee Honey Brown, Long Trail, most any Saranac, and for light stuff Sierra Nevada, Heineken, Shock Top.

PBR is better than the other watery american brews because it's cheap, and it tastes ALMOST like beer. Remember, it's not a real beer - PBR is made by all the other companies. It just depends on where they are and/or who has an extra keg.

PBR is fucking amazing. It's the best way to get drunk if you're on a budget. It's like 30 cents a can at the store and $2 at clubs (which are usually overpriced as all fuck). The best thing, though, is that it doesn't taste like crap. It's something you can not only stomach, but enjoy. Blue Moon is still the best-tasting beer, though.

When I need bottled alcohol, though, I usually go for Mike's. I love some of the flavors they have. I was amazed to discover some spiced apple stuff last time I opened one of their variety packs.

While I understand there are good American beers around, I've never had one. Only crap like Coors finds it way here. Coors merged with Molson, Canada's choice for hyped, yucky beer. At least they make Rickard's, which is tasty.

Other tasty beers: Kilkenny Cream Ale, Guinness, Asahi Black, Tusker Lager, Tsingtao, Big Rock (just about anything from them), Alexander Keith's (either their India Pale Ale or Red Amber Ale), Sleeman Honey Brown.

Things like Mike's Hard or Smirnoff Ice are apparently often close to beer in the USA because if they make them out of the same stuff they can sell it in grocery stores in many places. Seems like a crap deal for people who like their coolers made with vodka.

The only local beer from Toronto I like is Steam Whistle. MOst of the other local beers taste like they were brewed in a vat of nickels.

I live in Missouri. Almost at dead-center USA, and St. Louis is the home of Anheuser-Busch (and the vastly superior Schlafly/Saint Louis Brewery). Here are my favorite breweries:

Unibroue, Chimay, Trappistes Rochefort, Stone, New Belgium.

2 in Belgium, 2 in the United States, 1 in Canada. Rogue makes some damn fine beers as well, but I need to taste more before throwing them on my favorite list. And to you PBR drinkers: if you can find Stag, try that. It's by those brewers as well, as cheap as PBR, and tastes better.

It's sad that BMC are the biggest reps. of American beer.... That's it, I'm opening one right now.

To stay on topic:

google reveals disparity amongst cancer and beer research.

Seems like a disputed topic.

Well doh, Gambrinus is such a famous character that there's bound to be more than one: the one we regularly bought was in yellow cans but the logo was identical to this one: Gambrinus beer brewed in Austria, so no room for hurt feelings here, just a different Gambrinus beer ;-)

It would be like expecting England to have only one "John Bull" brand of ale.

I always found the girls' weakness at alcohol consumption in England quite funny - It's no surprise we have such a high teen pragnancy rate! Most girls here can't even last a casual night of drinking. There's a Slovak girl here who is showing us all how its really done. As a strong drinker of vodka (local stuff is 37.5% - dunno how that compares to Eastern Europe) myself, I appreciate her being here to show us blokes drinking can still be done by girls too.
