It was a good idea. That was a classic piece of television. It wasn't a smart idea, but smart and good are not always synonymous.

In the grand scheme of things, prom is basically a waste of money, so no big deal, especially since I've seen proms cancelled for less. A lesbian's urge to act masculine is also trivial.

Sort of on topic: I wanted a girl to come to prom with me in a tuxedo, but I couldn't find one who wanted to go through with it. I went years later, though she was in a dress. Probably a good call, as it showed off how stacked she was.

I think it's an amazing idea. I'd do it. I'm also positive it was made out to be worse than it was; it is television after all.

It would have made for a funny court case. On the one hand, they certainly have a right to say that kind of stuff on their cars, but I suspect a court wouldn't give them much if they tried to charge the rednecks since baiting people just isn't nice.

I'm waiting for the day when political correctness will cause a prom to be canceled in order not to offend those who don't have dates, or a high school football match to be canceled so the nerds don't get offended by the jocks' display of prowess and male dominance (if they haven't done so already ), but in those cases this whole "winner" culture would be at stake, so it would take quite a strong lobby to accomplish. I don't consider it impossible though.

Well, Mississippi can go screw itself for all I care. I respect this girl for standing up for herself. Has anyone really gone to Mississippi and thought "gee, these people totally aren't the most uneducated, ass-backwards, redneck, unintelligent slime to walk the Earth?" And I find it even more amusing that some bible thumper says that this incident is making them look stupid.

Do people still tell soap jokes? Down here they were mostly associated with Italians, probably a legacy of WW2. I thought they'd simply fallen from favour after our political leaders decided we should embrace multiculturalism.
