Hmm, I'd rather just see the live action stuff in 2D, and just have the 3D effect for the CG scenes where they can actually do it. But maybe if they make it all faked 3D, then they can justify charging higher prices than when the movies first came out. They should just be happy that they might get another theater run out of the movies, and give normal prices, though that might be wishful thinking.

Apparently, the 3D in Alice in Wonderland was done in post production. They wanted it in 3D from the start, but realized it was a lot cheaper not to buy 3D cameras and just do it in post. Jame Cameron had some negative things to say about this, but really, it didn't look much worse, if any, than Avatar.

I've seen all the Star Wars and LotR movies in the theatres, but I'd see them again in 3D. I guess I'm one of the few people who actually like it.

Yup. A big part of Avatar's lurid box office numbers are the higher ticket prices.

Why don't I have a custom title by now?!

Avatar was so long that they couldn't fit the whole movie in the 3D version. I'm sure some people went to see both the 2D and the 3D version, to have the whole story and the fancy effects.

Source please. I haven't heard anything about two different cuts of the movie.

Length is an issue for IMAX films due to it's massive physical size, but Avatar was digital.

Avatar is not IMAX? You've gotta tell these guys. And those ones too. And those.

Avatar was shown in regular theaters, too.

I'm with you on that. Just looking at a picture of it, it seems like a solid console.

I think he was saying that the IMAX version didn't have length issues because it was digital, as opposed to if IMAX showed the non-digital version.

They haven't revealed the actual system yet, just announced it. You probably saw the DSi.

The theater where I saw it had IMAX room with 3D and shortened duration, and standard room with 2D and full-length. What more can I say?

No, it's not. IMAX 70/15 is a massive film stock far greater in size than 35mm. Avatar was shot entirely on digital. The Dark Knight is the only Hollywood movie I can think of that used any real IMAX film, and that was only in a few scenes due to the limitations (only three cameras in the world, only 10 minutes of footage at a time, incredibly loud, etc).

The term "IMAX" has intentionally been diluted in order to cash-in on peoples misconceptions. "IMAX Digital" or "IMAX 3D" doesn't really mean anything - any movie can be converted to digital and shown on those projectors. You can google for complaints about "fake IMAX" and maps showing which movie theaters are the real deal. In my book, unless it's a theater designed to show IMAX 70/15 film, it's not really IMAX.

I saw a pic on Gamespy that was represented as the new 3D handheld. After going back so I could show it to you, I find that it has disappeared. Fuck GameSpy.

Wikipedia said:
Despite those advantages, one big disadvantage is the resolution of the picture is much lower than the resolution of the normal IMAX film, which is estimated to be about 12000 × 8700 theoretical pixels or 6120 × 4500 actually discernible pixels[19].

So I guess someone looking over your shoulder is going to see some of the weirdest nonsense ever if it relies on facial recognition?

Well... if it's a handheld, there won't be as many people looking over your shoulder. Also if there's already a DSi game that does this, I don't think that will be it.

I want to play vanilla Duke3D with the red/blue 3D mode, or play the NES (or whichever system) with the power glove and VR headset! Also, that one contraption that electro-shocks you when you take damage. (that might not exist...)

I still have yet to play an interactive stereoscopic game, and while viewing screenshots and youtube videos, I'm getting impatient. But on top of the 3D, it would be great if the game is actually good as well. (like Doom.....)
