Yeah, I have to go with The Thing. Even for the time it was filmed, it's still pretty fucking creepy. It's mostly the atmosphere and actual pacing of the movie that made it terrifying, though. You didn't know who or what the Thing could be, so you (and the characters) had to be on your toes the entire time. Classic film. I hear they're doing another remake (since Carpenter's was a remake, fyi). I'll probably pass on it, it will inevitably be terrible and the Carpenter version was fine.

It was a prequel that ended where Carpenter's movie started.

It was also released already. It got some somewhat mediocre critic reviews on metacritic but the user score is fairly high

The Carpenter version got pretty well roasted by critics too, so at least it lives up to its predecessor in that regard.

I haven't seen it yet, but I got the album and I can at least say the music's way better. I mean, I like Morricone's work on the original, but since 90% of it was cut in favor of Carpenter's aimless doodling on his synth, it definitely deserved that razzie award for worst soundtrack.

I "get" why critics disliked the original; the fact that they don't like the new one either is a good sign IMO.

I heard from a buddy that it was a decent flick with even a few surprises (!) for people who had seen the original, which is quite a feat considering you know exactly who survives and how the monster gets away.

Also kind of related to the Phantasm orbs, the gravers were probably one of the most memorable things about the series for me

I'm not sure if I would consider them scary, but they are definitely one of the coolest looking monsters I have seen, and pretty memorable. I would say that the concept of what they did when they caught you (impregnated you with a creature that would inevitably explode from your chest), was far more creepy. I remember thinking that the doom imp wake up sounds were remarkably like the sounds the aliens would make in the movies, and that similarity was further reinforced by the doom 3 imps and vulgars. :P

Initially, they were scary. But once you've seen an movie enemy they generally stop being as scary. Often it just ends up goofy. But the Aliens just went from scary to fucking awesome. Though I think they kept their scaryness still even after you seen them. Because there was so much more to them. They are basically giant hornets. You can relate that to reality in a very plausible way.

Not much scared me as far as movies and things go. The Thing was certainly creepy as you guys have already mentioned. The one creature that really did creep me out the most was the deformed bear from the Prophecy film. I was a kid when I saw the movie and it's been so long ago that I don't remember much of the film... just that I hated that mutant bear and I haven't seen that movie since.

I'll tell you what's the scariest monster I've seen on TV. I don't remember the film, but it was likely a B movie. The film was about an alien (or whatever) reptilian creature that was found on a tree. That creature would feed off electricity while devastating everything in sight. It would also grow immensely and become too deadly to contain (it was found lurking in a powerplant consumed by it). I just want to see that film again! The creature itself had a strange two-lobe head and was BURSTING with lightning...

Shivers (David Cronenberg)

That looks like a dong or piece of shit sticking out of the tub sink... So? If all it does is rape bathing people (assuming it's alive and moves), then I'm not impressed.

From video games, it's the fucking Half-Life barnacles.

The bear above looks like Two-Face.

oh! The monster in The Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" that only William Shatner kept seeing.

Man, that episode really scared me as a kid. Looks funny now. Nice hair.
