I still play Descent (2) on occasion, and replay Quake about once a quarter. Sooner or later I'll also get back to playing ROTT, which I likely played more than Doom while growing up.

At the newer end of these games (about the same time as Serious Sam so I reckon it's OK to include it) I'd have to go for Red Faction. I really enjoyed that game - and still do. Pushing the envelope a little further, I'd have to go for MoHAA. That is possibly my most played old not-doom FPS in the last year or so.

Heretic. It was one of my favorite games growing up. I also quite like the original soundtrack.

Agreed. The original Red Faction was a great game. Never played any of the sequels though, but I heard they kinda sucked.

I picked Shadow Warrior as it is the latest old school game I finally got my hands on a few days ago and I suprisingly loved it, I've already finished the main game and the wanton destruction addon once and am now currently playing through the twin dragon addon.

Getting through the first 3 Crash Bandicoots, man I wish games were still fun. Not FPS but still great :)

The thing with the Red Faction sequels that I've played (2 and Guerrilla) is that they're completely different games. In 2 you're a super soldier with a lot of dual weilding and other fancy "modern" features, whilst Guerrilla is basically a physics destruction sandbox with a lot of missions in it.

They're good games IMO, but not necessarily ones that a fan of the original will enjoy.

despite Red Faction and Red Faction 2 being totally different games, the multiplayer for RF2 was way better. grenade launchers were a little overpowered though.

The multiplayer in Red Faction 2 is very 'lulzy' and fun. Basically, all the weapons that don't explode are useless, and all the ones that do insta kill in a shower of gibs & can destroy walls. Also, you can create your own bots and edit variables such as their tendancy to camp, run and gun, their favourite weapons etc. Had great fun split-screening this game with friends on PS2. No idea what the PC version is like but I suspect it has access to online multiplayer and mod.

BTW - has anyone played a recently released mod for Blood called Death Wish? There isn't that much user content for Blood compared to, say, Duke Nukem 3D, but this particular mod looks huge - practically the length of a full game. And it is all done by one author!
