and from when WoW is a war game?

Well...it has war in the name, that has to count for something I guess. Also every warcraft game prior is a 'war' game I suppose.

This begs a VERY important question, was Breivik playing horde or alliance? Because it was the orcish horde that simply wants to live in peace with nature with being besieged by the warmongering human alliance.

Seriously, I bet $100 he was a dwarf hunter.

I thought we hod gotten past these kinds of articles, but I guess not:
There's stretch between this and articles directly advocating games as causes of evils. The article's not innocent, as it leaves room for "game haters" to get interested in the article, but it's more about the general influence of video games in a political sense (in respect to Breivik's phenomenon.) Discussions about media considered as militaristic propaganda entertainment that helps harbor "fascist" stances predate video games. Would Danarchy, if he were a legislator, ban the topic of "violent" video games as a possible adverse social factor? Probably not, and people bringing this "video games may cause or help promote some evils" topic up don't necessarily advocate banning video games, but might end up with legislation that regulates them, or other conclusions that elicit or recommend design improvements related to morality or ethics. The idea games are "just games" and somehow clearly and totally disconnected from morality is as dubious as the "games cause terrorists" idea. While games don't cause evils directly, you still may want to verify how they may channel adverse social behavior and if there is anything to do about that.

I like how the article says he played a computer game called "Warhammer". There's no such thing. Warhammer is a franchise of several tabletop and computer games. Warhammer Fantasy Battle is technically called just Warhammer, but it's not a computer game. Goddamn journalists don't do any research these days.

I thought Taurens were the only tree hugging Horde race. I mean, isn't the Warsong Gulch "story" about humans and orcs both trying to tear up the same land?

Well, ok. But there are a bunch of games with Warhammer in the title right? I'm not sure what you're saying.

I assume they were talking about this or this

I mean, he said "Elder Scrolls" and "Modern Warfare", but I didn't assume he was playing the first of these games.

I was under the impression that the sacking of Constantinople was pretty common knowledge?

a quick check of wiki makes me think you just equate templars to crusaders, even though i found no mention of templars even participating in the infamous fourth crusade. unlike vassals of the french king, who i trust got his fair share of the loot. templar knights were mostly fighting in palestine, not making a mess of the way there.

As far as worshiping Baphomet goes, there are as many sources saying they did as there are saying did not.

well, another wiki article says even the catholic church doesn't believe that bullshit anymore. their policy to pardon anyone who recanted and repented just screams "political process." giordano bruno vs. galileo galilei would be another fine example of that principle.

Edit: Also, I'm only repeating what my History teacher told me in 8th grade.

this i can understand. we trust teachers so... and history in particular gets twisted and rehashed to frightening degrees.

I suppose, but people don't refer to those games as "Warhammer", except maybe Warhammer Online. Aside from WHO or Space Marine, there's also Dawn of War, Fire Warrior, Space Hulk, or a half dozen other titles they've released under the Warhammer brand, most of them different genres...anything from MMO to FPS to action-adventure, to wargame. It just seems really silly to say that.

The video game industry is probably on-par with Hollywood right now, so even if a new generation of Mary Whitehouses are born, there is not much they can do to bring down the system. I'm inclined to believe most young adult buy more games than they do film or music.

In my case it's the other way around. I buy maybe two games a year, but that's because I buy stuff like Skyrim that keeps me going for most of the year. It's nicer to have a huge pile of movies and music.

I racked up 280+ hours of TF2 and I wouldn't even call myself a hardcore player of that game. good lord.

I see it like this, as long as there are video games, there's always going to be some asswipe journalist or politician blaming a murder on them.

Also just 500 hours in WoW is nothing. There've been people that became literally ADDICTED to that game.

So I guess people who got addicted on trading games such as Elite or Federation become big-time economic vultures? Oh wai...
