Do Diablo bots exist? Bots, as in computer-controlled players, not cheating programs. I'm interested in having a computer do the drudgery of level grinding and item collecting for me, so that I can do something else in the meantime, like reading a book. If lives are infinite, then all the better: the bot doesn't have to be great :D

Don't play this game. You obviously miss the point of it.

Besides, the whole game is online now, you'd probably get banned for using bots. I've heard people are getting banned for using a graphics mod. If that's true then... shit.

I don't blame them; it's not like customization has ever prolonged a game's lifespan.

And yeah, I understand that Blizzard's incentive is to use the game as a digital commerce, so customization would eliminate much of their business.

This application really should be packaged with their product. They have a tool that eliminates their products security issues and they are charging you for it?

There were simple bots that existed for d2 closed bnet. Pindle bot was the most famous and common. There was a bit of a setup to get it working properly, but if you had a high level sorc or zon in act 5 hell, it would automatically create games, enter nihlathak's portal move 10 feet and kill pindleskin. It would collect any good items if they dropped, exit and create a new game over and over.

I don't remember exactly, but I do think there was a working mephisto running bot.

Beyond that they couldn't 'play' the game for you except killing a particular creature.

Aaaah. D2 online. I remember a few friends and I used a Baal Bot to do continuous baal runs for the experience... a kitted out teleporting sorceress that would rapidly teleport through the few levels to get baal, with us running along behind it killing as much as we could. Wipe the floor with baal, rinse and repeat. On a good session we could do 20 or 30 baal runs over the course of a few hours. Aaah good times.

In regards to D3, I really don't like the lack of genuine offline single player. But let's face it, Diablo 2 was ultimately all about the online multiplayer, so this is no surprise that D3 would do the same. It just sux to not at least have any choice.

How's the D2 community holding up? I've been thinking about re-buying the Battle Chest to play it again.

I know that graphics mods(specifically stuff to increase resolution) aren't allowed for Starcraft because it would amount to cheating, because the player using them could see more of the play area than the other guy, and perhaps move quicker as well. Clearly we all know that Diablo 3 isn't an RTS game, but maybe they just extended that same no-graphics-mod policy over to all blizzard games?

I'm quite interested on how these are programmed. Note that I do NOT intend to cheat like saying IDFA: instant duped items. No, I just intend to do something unethical, like putting a machine to do a player's job. Obviously Diablo is a game to be enjoyed, and by deploying droids specifically for the boring parts, I'll get to better enjoy the exciting parts. No one loses, not even the teammates (which all they'll see from their POV will be a very valiant player doing repetitive tasks as the bot).

So what are you gonna do? Fight the bosses? You'll be at such a high level they'd all be piss easy. Have fun with that.

Diablo, and games like it, are all about the risk and reward, the rags to the riches, the role playing cycle is about character development, there's nothing like going from a family of rats hating your face and making fun of your puny spells in the beginning to taking a big ass demon sword to some scary fucking devil dudes from Hell later on.

But I understand if you're spoiled.

So I got Diablo 3, played the shit out of it. I enjoyed the game-play for the first 2 difficulties...

I have a level 55 monk. If any one cares, as far as I know the cap for levels is 60. (my gut feeling is that there is an expansion per-planned.)

but Diablo has always been about the items, and that is even more exaggerated now. Simply put, if you did not like going over the same area 20x, then do not play past nightmare. (I'm considering stopping with how much trouble I am having in hell.)

I liked:
+:Revamped inventory (less clutter)
+:UI is clean and simple to use
+:Malleable Skills
+:Improved shops and item drops.

My queefs with the game are as follows:
-:too short(there are only like 6 randomly generated dungeons in each act, and only 4 acts. Act 4 is the shortest thing ever (feels super rushed and cobbled together.) blink and you will miss it.)
-:bad writing and characters(seriously, all the demons sound like super villains from an old cartoon. And all the demons talk way WAY too much.)
-:most of the music SUCKS, it lost all its ambiance and went for epic sweeping battle music.
-:Cant take hirlings with you unless in single player.
-:only 4 players at a time in a game.

My bottom line:
Not worth the 60$ I paid for it. Hoping torchlight 2 will be better.

Loving Diablo III. The only major issue I have is the story, but I'm so desensitized to Blizzard so that it's a bemusement park. Tearing up shit with my friends is as fun as it's ever been.

I never played any of the Diablo games and wanted to get 3 when it came out but after hearing about the constant internet requirement and the issues people are having with it being too short I have no real reason to aquire this game, I might as well pick up that copy of Diablo 2 with the expansion from the retail store.

Bucket said:I'll let you in on a little secret: they weren't working on it the whole time.

Technically, no-- they weren't. The documentary that came with the Collector's Edition spoke about how members of Blizzard North had started work on Diablo 3 before Lord of Destruction was even out (which would make Diablo 3's development time roughly 11-12 years). However, work halted and new iterations had to be created following Blizzard North falling apart.

That isn't really the point anyway. What I was attempting to say is that for a company that prides itself as being one of the few remaining developers that refuses to release a game "until it's done," Diablo 3 exists as a direct contradiction to that. It launched without PvP, the real money AH was taken down, server issues, game breaking bugs and so on. Even if you narrow down the development time to a solid four years of consistent work, it still feels rushed, especially in Act IV, so it doesn't really matter.

Can't say about now, but up until 06/07 it was still really strong. You could jump on any time of the day or night and find loads of games on all three difficulties, includiing specialised games dedicated to, say pindle runs,(for gear) baal runs (for experience) and countess runs (for rune drops).

I guess D2 was a big enough game that there will always be a sizeable community.

Here is a good place to start.

To be honest, I didn't do any actual configuring of bots. I had friends who loved tinkering around with stuff like this... you know, sysadmin guys, professional IT guys through and through, that I used to play with. Having a quick look around the web just now, it seems that getting and configuring bots now for D2 is a little easier than it used to be. Me, I just brought a lot of Diablo 2 knowledge to the table. Items, runewords etc etc. Used to know all that stuff cold. Heh. Had a Pally with a 6 soc ethereal 'zerker axe with BOTD, ethereal HOZ with Zod rune, perfect pally torch (+20), enigma plate, all the good gear etc etc. Tanking for Uber Tristram runs, though was still hard enough that I still needed a good necro to lifetap me and a good healer to keep me up, especially against Uber Mephisto. He was badass. Not that any of this probably means much to anyone here. Aaah good times.

Seriously tho, if you are talking about playing D3, I have read that it is easy enough that bots are not worth the effort. D2 was a much harder game with all the Uber sections, and only the best legitimate characters had a hope. It was an actual achievement to beat the Ubers legitimately, and botting took the edge off all the hard grinding that was required to get a good character with the best gear.

If your argument were true, they would have done the same with Starcraft 2.(the modding part)

EDIT: You can also heavily modify the UI in WoW( which is why it became so easy)

as I've understood it so far, it has to develop Alot. Iahvent played it yet though.

but I think that there will be very few more games that has the same quality as the PC games made during th 90's and early 2000's, since the industry is so pushed to have as much as possible done as fast as possible.

Please don't tell me that if you want to play single player, not only you need an Internet connection (which has been announced and is expected), but also the servers need to work... Or is that an issue only for multiplayer? Or is there no option to play alone?

I probably won't buy this game, because my casual playing days are over. If I want a similarly mighty feeling like with the Demon Hunter (I presume), I can try Hexen with its own mighty characters and its fairly good number of custom maps from /idgames.

Sadly, this is true. Probably one of the worst things possible for the game. Seriously? Why do we have to be online, IF WE'RE GOING TO PLAY SINGLEPLAYER!? Btw. Smart idea skipping this pathetic game. Nothing at all like diablo 1 and diablo 2. The were both hard, horrific, and fun. Diablo 3 is so easy, a fucking toddler could beat it.

Gaming's gone to Hell, at least the games that I like, RAGE was the first real disappointing id title, Duke Nukem Forever was a belated lolcow of epic mediocrity, and Postal III was an indie game trying to be Hollywood and some people still don't know it came out.

Now comes UbiSoft's Diablo III much to the disappointment of offline single player gamers (contrary to popular belief we're not a dying breed but by popular demand we might as well be).

To me, its a dark, gory version of WoW. If there's ever an offline SP version made available (through any method possible) that is the only way I will ever attempt to give this game a chance. I'm not taking Blizzdick and attempt to play for an hour or two and possibly have fun just to get cut off from playing and be reminded why always-online DRM doesn't do jack shit except cripple the game.

IKR?! The made diablo look like World Of Virgincraft because people that liked Wow wouldn't buy D3 unless it looked like Wow since it's "like the greatest thing ever" most dissapointing game of 2012 so far.

Anyway, blizz killed off an iconic character. Why you ask? Not because he's 'old' but because blizz removed identify scrolls from the game and the need to id gear. Cain's primary job is now gone, so they said fuck him, and had him killed off.

It's lunacy.

Still don't understand why they removed ID scrolls from the game. In D2 and D1, when I found an unidentified item, It got me all excited because when I finally talked to Cain, or found a ID scroll, I was hoping for the best not knowing how good or how bad the item would be.

As per usual, the paid critics are lapping up Blizzard's cum, but the average reviewers are actually panning this game. The more I read, the less I want to rush out and upgrade.

Maybe when Doom 4 comes out I'll rush out and buy a new computer, but not for this game

"Best game Ever!!!. i have been playing for 6 hours and now i'm in college, i want to play it NOW lol. i am loving the WD. The story is so much better than D1 and D2(ive only played 6 hours but its awesome so far!) i love the WD attacks they are all so visceral! " Seems legit review.

Possibly because they believed people didn't want to mess around with having to have inventory slots taken up with id and tp scrolls? I don't know. Rare yellows are unidentified however, you simply need to right click them to id them. I assume uniques are the same way but I never saw one drop. And yes tp scrolls are out too. TP is a quest reward skill you learn early on.

Yeah...The worst part about d3's story isn't even cains death or the painfully childish scooby-doo villainy of the lesser evils. It's the lack of any real connection or continuity with d1/d2. Tyrael destroys the worldstone and says it would have catastrophic consequences...that we don't see. The only connection is some retcon that the dark wanderer/diablo impregnated some hag prior to meeting up with mephisto in d2 so that he could be born again in 20 years as the alien queen with a speech impediment....yeah ok.

Do you mean that items get automatically identified now? If so, then THANK GOD. I never liked having to go to town just to identify things -- it was breaking the dungeon-crawling mood. It would also make going ironman more exciting, as you'll get more choice on items than before.

Cain dies? Okay. He was only cool in Diablo 1 anyway. By Diablo 2, he became boring and I don't understand why they needed to bring him with you everywhere. He was an old man.

Plot is made by the Dark Wanderer having impregnated an old woman 20 years ago? Sounds silly. The world doesn't look as apocalyptic as suggested by Worldstone's destruction? Hm.

I keep thinking about how they are going to make sequels. I mean, killing Diablo 5 or 6 times would make him look very stupid. It's a very cool game title but it could backfire in the future.

Also, what build are you guys currently using?I have a wizard using diamond skin, venom hydra, magic weapon, spark and disintegrate. What about you?

Did you guys notice how the wizard is similar to those 2d bullet hell games from the 90s? The wizard REALLY reminds me of this game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AxTp0rNuaw
