Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story

A partial biography of Karen Carpenter's life and death, acted out solely with Barbie dolls. Yeah, it sounds goofy explained that way, but it's one of the better celebrity documentaries out there.

If you're into metal, then Metal: A Headbanger's Journey is a must watch. Even as a musician or just a listener, it's still very intriguing and informative.

This was really the most comprehensive documentary about metal I've ever seen.

If I have one piece of criticism it's that I think it needed more "outsider" opinions. Any metalhead from any walk of life can tell you about how great metal is. Except for interviews with the minister of that church that was burned down in Norway and a writer who thinks Cannibal Corpse's album artwork is perverse, I expected something a little more unbiased and inquisitive, even being a metalhead at heart myself and nodding my head in agreement throughout.

Maybe I just expected too much from a 90-minute film, though.

Ultime grida dalla savana, the famous 70s Mondo documentary on hunting, human-animal relations and ultimately, human nature itself.

Its sequels Savana Violenta and Dolce & Selvaggio are also a good watch. English dubs exist, but are rarer...

Carl Sagan's Cosmos: A Personal Voyage is wonderful. You can watch it on Netflix now.

Not sure if this counts, but it's amazing, hilarious and insightful.
