Custom wallpaper by my friend. She's pretty good at Photoshop.

Yeah, I haven't been able to draw anything new recently so my desktop hasn't changed much.

I'm at a loss to explain all those lights in outback Australia. Could be mine sites, immigration detention centres or Photoshop - take your pick.

I have a similar image as my desktop background, and that part of Australia is a whole lot darker - though still with more lights than you'd expect.

Ah, it's infrared, that might explain it. I read in a magazine that the whole western/middle of Australia has been mostly free of topsoil and subsoil for several million years, it's just the bare regolith and bedrock of the crust poking up. Is it possible this rock is holding the heat of the daytime sun, which is why it appears on an infrared photo?

It also could be all the alien spacecraft they keep out at Pine Gap.

You have been warned.

Ironically, I rarely ever see my desktop so I don't know why I ever have anything on it.

Found this on a thread about mirror's edge somewhere. And the skyrim rainmeter skin someone configured. I think the bar skin is some old bauhaus theme?

I made it. It is stretched because it was made for an old monitor and I have never bothered remaking it in a widescreen format.

Had the same thing for months.

Normally I change my desktop every couple of weeks because I get bored of looking at the same thing, but I really like this one. I'm sure I won't be the only person to recognise the Doom-ish quality of it.

Wildfires?

Possible but unlikely, there's not a hell of a lot to burn around there and wildfires are one of the light sources they're filtering out. Super Jamie's explanation sounds plausible, if I wanted to test fly a UFO I'd head for a remote, practically uninhabited spot and central Australia fits the bill nicely.

This is my real desktop, or laptop.. There's external hdd and soundcard behind the screen. The computer image changes between that chameleon and the betta fish.

Why are there always so many dark and depressing desktops whenever a new thread like this gets posted here?
