Eulerian Video Magnification percieves movement that's invisible to the naked eye.

I don't understand why such technology has taken this long to happen, but this is enormously cool and has all kinds of applications that could make the world a better place.

What eyes cannot see...

When implemented to video camera, possibilities could be numerous.

On another thought that popped in my mind, what this could do in astronomy?

Discovering planets for one thing. AFAIK the only available method of finding other worlds in distant solar systems is looking for small objects crossing the path of a star's light, so it could potentially make spotting them a lot less taxing.

I wonder how difficult it is to calibrate the detection thresholds properly, in order to suppress video source noise and false positives.

This is the most common method, though there are others, including direct imaging.
