I'm not privy to the meme, but you missed my point.

There is no such thing as too much doom.

That's not so bad. Whenever I'm alone in a room with a mirror I look into the mirror and start doing the Doom guy faces to see how I'd look like as a hud face. Then as soon as I do the "ouch" face I feel a complete idiot and stop.

Inspiration comes in all forms. Last time I had a moment like that was years and years ago, when I still tinkered with mapping for Duke. I was in a doctor's office and thought how well the layout could be recreated in Build.

I do it all the time, especially when I'm looking for inspiration for a level. I've actually been doing that for about three years since I started making levels.
