Marnetmar Posted August 2, 2015 It manages to make SS1's soundtrack not just tolerable but amazing, which is a pretty impressive feat: 0 Share this post Link to post
Tristan Posted August 2, 2015 I think this guy tends to use various soundfonts. In the comments he says its mostly the SC-55 soundfont but I think I hear drums and guitars from Chorium here. Not sure on other instruments 0 Share this post Link to post
dew Posted August 2, 2015 I think it sounds terrible. Introtheme's tune is pretty much murdered. 0 Share this post Link to post
Blastfrog Posted August 2, 2015 SC-55 and similar square/saw waves only sound good in cheesy, poppy things. It sounds awful when trying to be used in a harsher way, it just doesn't have the right tone for it. It's tolerable if you're stuck with it, but if you're going to be messing with soundfonts in a specialized way, you may as well have something that sounds more like actual techno and not pop. 0 Share this post Link to post

I'd make an exception for the intro theme, it's one of the only ones that was tolerable to listen to on general midi, except the flutes or whatever they are that come in around 0:30 sounded really bad. I think this version alleviates the flute issue, but the beeps at the beginning and guitar bit towards the end now sound way too harsh. 0 Share this post Link to post
dew Posted August 2, 2015 Have you heard the Mac remixes? They sound much richer than the beeping and booping of the original DOS midis, yet the Introtheme variant still keeps the flutes - and they fit in so well! The CD intro sequence is fantastic and I can't imagine the music replaced with... whatever that soundfont does. It sounds dulled and lacks the cyberpunk vibe oozing from the "rich" intro sequence. 0 Share this post Link to post
