Bank Posted July 13, 2008 A character from the space opera I've been working on, Reldnisafët Naqrirí is a Qehr, a race of fanatically religious humanoids with alien features (like the proboscis) and beautiful artwork (for example, each projectile fired from their weaponry is a artfully crafted triangular prism.) Naqrirí himself is a former Priest turned Bounty Hunter, pariah of his people, lost his left foot to a Braintree in the Brainforest of the Swamps of Timor. http://bankart.deviantart.com/art/Anguish-of-Reldnisafet-Nariri-91512330 Original Artwork http://bankart.deviantart.com/art/Reldnisafet-Naqriri-Color-91519953 Colored and Digitized (this took FOREVER because I lined it with a mouse in flash, I know there is probably an easier way but I'm so acclimated to the software's multiple uses that I really can't switch now...) 0 Share this post Link to post
Mithral_Demon Posted July 13, 2008 Pretty good, Bank. But the mouth... urrm... Too much like an Ant-Eater... Kinda freaks me out to see something with an Ant-Eater feature, unless it was full blown alien and DOES NOT represent anything humanoid. 0 Share this post Link to post

He's supposed to very alien, and what's more alien than a humanoid with a decidedly unhumanoid feature. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted July 13, 2008 Well, to be honest the first thing I thought was "dickface" :p 0 Share this post Link to post
Inferno Posted July 13, 2008 Well the head is rather odd. But its a good pose. You should make a frontview of the head, seeing the underside first might be a little misleading. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bank Posted July 13, 2008 http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/Comiclez/reldhead.png I drew some additional poses for his head, maybe this will make it easier to see how it looks. I'm starting to like this digital ink and color thing. 0 Share this post Link to post
MmM Posted July 14, 2008 Pretty cool design; I could see that being in Star Wars or Star Trek or something. How does it see, sensory perception with the proboscis? 0 Share this post Link to post

Close, notice the four bumps that protrude from his hood? Those are sensory nodes and offer something equatable with sight/smell/hearing. In the backstory for the Qehr, their God-King Noxis is so intent on being unseen that the only ones allowed in his presence are his High Priests, who even then have had certain sensory nodes removed so that they cannot speak of his appearance. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kyka Posted July 15, 2008 My uncle once told me that he lost a foot in the Braintree forests of Timor, and I never believed him... :P Cool drawings. And very creative imagination. Somehow it doesn't look quite right tho. I am waiting for him to pull off that big mask thing and reveal something with a human head beneath it. Good work tho... keep it up I like the back story. 0 Share this post Link to post

I think the relative uneasiness is part of the effectiveness of the character, he's an ironic character to say the least. The Qehr are religious fanatics and artists, but are truly hideous. The fact that the Qehr have no mask to pull off deepens their character. 0 Share this post Link to post
