I think we can make this happen... and if your having any troubles about the process I have a suggestion.

1 Person makes a layout and places monsters\\doors\\lifts
2 Another mapper who already has a map tests this map and adds in ammo and more monsters and traps. (This way we have to build the traps in to the maps, rather than building the maps in to the traps.)
3 Last person checks the game play and adds detail and aesthetics as well as secrets and fine tuning.

Of course I think there also should be specific guidelines for maps for each part. Like when doing the layout have no lines < 32 in length. I think the hardest part to control would be part two, because that is where all the fun and ingenuity come in to play.

Oh well... Im really just blowing around hot air and I am just wanting to see this topic discussed further. :)
