Necro-bump (less than a year, so it's not too bad): I spent some time today improving Freedoom's DMXGUS. Specifically, the new config is programatically generated based on a statistical survey of MIDI instrument usage across various different popular WAD files. The result is much better than it was before (and it now makes full use of the 1MB of RAM you'll get with an emulated card), but there's still some room for improvement if anyone is so-inclined.
