I just woke up and this was basically the first thing I saw. I still can't believe it.
Apparently ZeniMax, aka the parent company of Bethesda- aka the creators of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3- just bought id Software. Apparently because id Software is tired of competing with their publishers.
It remains to be seen how this arrangement could be beneficial to id or Bethesda.
I'm going back to bed, maybe things will make more sense when I wake up again.
