I have started group on Steam called Doom Nation United

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/hardcore_doomers

The idea behind it was to create a group that any Doomer can join. Some of the benefits would be:

-You will be in Steam group for Doomers......HURAY!

-You can chat with other members in real time using the steams chat feature.

-Keep a friend list other forum members if you so wish.

-Play with them on steam servers if you so wish.

-Room for 150 members

-This is a private group, no spam whores.

Now of course you could do all of those things without joining the group and thats mighty fine

But i think that the idea of the Doomworld forum members being on a single group where anybody can chat and play with anybody as along as the have steam is pretty damn cool.

If you want to join just give my your Steam user name.

There's nothing as cool in multiplayer games as blowing an asshole's face with a SSG. I love to humiliate these suckers (verbally and with fire power).

No the idea was more like join and and have fun thing. Why am i yet to get a single positive comment on this? The idea isn't bad.

And if you/anybody else hate/hates steam then just stay away from this, there really is no purpose in "steam sucks" kind of replies as nobody will care.

hardcore_gamer, you better get rid of all this idea and start anew. Make yourself a personalized Doom community, and AVOID using controversial stuff like Steam. Offer cool stuff like tournaments, mapping contests, bonus trips around the globe, live meetings 'tween forum members...

Ok you are creating a Camel out of a Fly, it never was my goal to do any of those things with what i just created. It is just a Steam group for people how want to join, and thats it. There are no $1000.000 rewards,
no huge events.....its just a Steam group like so many others. And i am to lazy to update my website more than once a month

I'd actually prefer to see a doomworldforums/#zdoom steam group. We already have a Unidoom group.

And pretty much half of the people posting in this thread, especially enjay, is a paranoid moron, sorry.

If you'd ever read any of my Steam rants, you would know that it's not the usual paranoia of "OMG I don't know what they are doing with all the info the Steam spies are gathering about me", it's actually far simpler than that. Short version - Steam is shit, and that's from bitter experience. It fucked up my computer, made me wait online for hours to update games I already had bought, and didn't want to update. It sat in my memory being a little resource hog just in case I started a game so that it could verify games that I'd payed for and advertise stuff at me that I didn't want. I had to sacrifice some of my computer's abilities for the convenience of the distributor. The customer inconvenienced for the benefit of the seller.

It's wrong - pure and simple. And here's why...

It's entirely enjay's choice if he wants to have steam or not installed; I do not however appreciate the underlying insults that doomers with steam installed are dumb or dumber. I'm not offended, it just doesn't seem very fair. I'm sure it was all in jest though and nothing serious was meant by it.

Also, even though I'm not a fan of the thread starter, starting up Doom groups on Steam is actually a pretty good idea. Enjay, I'm surprised that you would take the position that such a thing in and of itself is bad because I seem to recall you being FOR the encouragement of playing doom. If I'm mistaken I apologize, I can't be arsed to go searching through threads here or on the zdoom forums to reference this. But regardless, that is a good reason, in my opinion, for the creation of Doom groups. This also goes to printz in response to HIS response.

Don't get it all badly, my response came from reading the thread title, Doom Nation United, which sounds ultra-majestic to me. I was a bit disappointed when I saw that it's only based on Steam, not something brand new and amazing. Note that I'm not being sarcastic here.

When I see something called Doom Nation United I imagine a grand project, done with determination.

Fair points, all of it. Primarily, my digs are just for fun (most of my posts have smilies in them). However, I do object very much to Steam and do believe that encouraging it is a brilliant way to let the publishers have their way and to let them dictate how we play games that we have bought on our machines in our houses. That can't be right. Anyone encouraging it is encouraging something that undermines some of my principles and I do find it hard to reconcile otherwise intelligent people allowing themselves to be dictated to, and compromised by a company that they pay money to.

And, Steam really did mess up my computer big time.
