I mostly hate them when they are on high places that are hard to aim for. And yes, I get paid 1 cent per year to hate chaingunners. Hey it's 1 cent more than I had last year right?

I also hate chaingunners if you jack their firing speed up a notch (3 tics instead of 4)...and the only thing worse is the double chaingunner edit on Realm667. I made the mistake of editing the firing frame speed and they tear through humans/imps like butter and rip through just about any stock Doom monster except the bosses.

Chaingunners are pests if 1) placed on a high platform and far away or 2) in hordes (10 or more at once)

I'm absolutely fine with Chaingunners and Revenants, even though the latter can be quite a bitch to deal with, but Archviles are seriously my undoing. I'm just absolutely terrible dealing with them. If I were in a room with a Cyberdemon and an Archvile then I would first deal with the Archvile, I'm just so shit at fighting them.

It's a good thing to find cover if it's in a large area, then fire rockets or just melt them with the plasma gun (these tend to dispatch them quickly from my experience).

The Chaingunner can become a useful enemy disposal tool if a lot of monsters are bunched close together. I've seen Chaingunner's take out several Imps and even Cacodemons, as well as the odd Revenant.

@ MwMike: If you want to get better at fighting arch-viles, you gotta fight a ton of archviles. What I did to get better is I downloaded Oblige and generated a level that was all archviles and went through it. The only way to get better at anything is to do it more.

That's quite true too. Whenever I'm thinking about strategies for dealing with DooM enemies I rarely ever think of causing a bit of infighting/friendly fire, despite it being one of my main tactics when dealing with powerful enemies ingame.

@Kaiser : Yeah I "love" some of your maps. I have never beaten your 18th map in one run. It's pretty big and there are a ton of chaingunners in it. I have a friend at college who wants me to record a demo of it. So far I haven't done so well with that. I've made to the room with the arachnotrons (after the revenants in the slime pit). How far am I from the end?
