I'myourtarget Posted August 17, 2011 I actually like Doom 3 and even ROE. When I first played Doom 3, I found it scary to the point of not being able to play it at night. (I was like 8-10 then though so that's probably why) I actually hate Vanilla. I always either have the problem of not saving enough or saving too much to the point of saving right before something kills me. I also can't figure out how to use resurrect, though I'm probably spelling it wrong in console or something. I often get bored quickly playing Doom lately. I actually played Final Doom before Doom 2 because for some reason back then I thought Final Doom came before Doom 2. Also I played Doom 3 first. I've played through Doom 3 at least 15 times. That's probably enough for now. 0 Share this post Link to post

Dark X Posted August 17, 2011 When I play Doom, I am all over the place. I look like an Asian playing DDR at the boardwalk, only it's Doom. So I'm just kind of flinching every few minutes because demons are jumping out at me and I'm really into it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Vesperas_ Posted August 17, 2011 Here are mine:My favorite version of Doom is PSX Final Doom, with Doom 64 coming in second. I don't care much for E3 or E4 of Ultimate Doom, nor do I care for Doom 2 really. Like others, I like the PSX music and FX by Aubrey Hodges more than the original audio by Robert Prince. My favorite Doom level is probably Toxin Refinery. My favorite Doom 2 level is Underhalls. I think the Arch-Vile is a shit enemy and balanced terribly. Whenever I encounter one my enjoyment of whatever I'm playing usually evaporates (probably because of Plutonia setting a bad precedent). Likewise, I much prefer the slower moving Revenant in the PSX Doom ports than the fast moving, border-line annoying Doom 2 one. When it moves fast I think it looks like shit but when it moves slowly it actually kind of unnerves me. I also don't care for the Icon of Sin "enemy" and Icon of Sin-esque levels. Growing up, the level Geryon in PSX Doom kind of creeped me out, pretty much exclusively due to the whistling / chalkboard music track. I liked Doom 3 but not RoE as much. Evilution and Plutonia kind of bother me. Evilution mostly because some of the levels are crap and Plutonia because I mostly dislike the entire design and type of gameplay (bordering on slaughterfest, with monster closets crammed full of the above-mentioned Arch-Viles and fast moving Revenants). I don't believe I ever finished Evilution or Plutonia legitimately for a variety of reasons. A friend of mine and I once played PSX Final Doom almost entirely in a straight-shot on UV, making sure to get 100% kills on every map because we were trying to find the Spider Mastermind (which is included in the cast section but doesn't actually appear anywhere in the game). 0 Share this post Link to post

Except for MAP32 and maybe a few others, Plutionia's maps aren't slaughterfests at all. I think that most of the levels have less than 100 monsters. The high difficulty was due to the extremely good monster placement. 0 Share this post Link to post

I suppose the keyword there is "bordering," because that's how I often felt. The odd part is that while I think Plutonia's levels are fairly nice in terms of architecture (even if the general look and feel becomes repetitive quickly), the monster placement (and enemies you're forced to face in near countless shit situations) lowers my enjoyment of it immensely. Furthermore, considering the first enemy you face in coop is a Spider Mastermind and you're forced to fight it by shooting it with a shotgun or rocket launcher down a hallway with notched walls, I'm not sure if I would call it "extremely good monster placement." I always felt Plutonia's difficulty came mostly from the extreme overuse of Arch-Viles, Heavy Weapon Dudes and Revenants (...especially Revenants). 0 Share this post Link to post

If i'm exaggerating it's by one or two at most. Hell, it isn't even my most played game either. In other news, I have no social life whatsoever. 0 Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted August 17, 2011 You've probably got more of a social life than I do. My attention span's probably just a lot smaller. 0 Share this post Link to post

Then why don't you just play it on a lower difficulty? 0 Share this post Link to post

Normally I play on the default difficulty (Hurt Me Plenty) and there are several Arch-Viles in the first level. As far as I can remember, even on lower difficulties there are Revenants in every single level. It becomes old really fast. I don't really understand why you seem so stuck on my opinion of Plutonia's gameplay. =P 0 Share this post Link to post

hex11 Posted August 19, 2011 Nah, it would be a lot less hitscan overall (chaingunners are the most guilty). The ones he had a beef with: chaingunner -> sergeant revenant -> imp archvile -> baron The others: arachnotron -> sergeant mancubus -> caco hell knight -> caco pain elemental -> caco wolf SS -> sergeant And of course, SSG has to go... 0 Share this post Link to post

Dark X Posted August 19, 2011 I lie to people so that I can play Doom. Sometimes I lie to people about having played Doom. "I'd love to chat more, but I'm tired. I'm going to bed." = "I'm going to play Doom while you think I'm sleeping." "I had a lot of free time today." = "I played Doom for an unhealthy amount of time." "I'm busy with a lot of things." = "I'm playing Doom." "I was just chatting online all night, y'know." = "I was playing a Doom deathmatch with other people just like me, and the only thing we said to each other was 'GG'. It kicked ass." 0 Share this post Link to post

Face23785 Posted August 20, 2011 I've downloaded hundreds of wads after reading their /newstuff reviews. I either like the way they sound, or just want a good laugh if they've received a particularly bad review. But I never fuckin play them, I probably play less than 10% of what I download. 0 Share this post Link to post

Platinum Shell Posted August 20, 2011 I actually lasted an hour with infinite ammo with the chaingun at the ending of Mock 2: The Speed of Stupid. You know, the area that leads to the gaint person crapping into the toilet bowl, and the spawn cubes fly out of the person's ass? I also beat Mock 2's map, "Turn That Frown Upside Down" with no savegames. Also, how the hell do you beat Mock 2's map, "RECTUMRECTUMRECTUM"? 0 Share this post Link to post
