Sp00kyFox Posted September 9, 2013 good stuff valkhorn, nice entertaining commentary ;) maybe a bit late but I can't agree with the free mouselook in the classic iwads. I feel many things (not to mention the final stage in doom2) are designed considering this limitation. oh talking about icon of sin, you should make sure that you're using the "doom (strict)" compatibility setting. I also noticed the colors are a bit washed out, would prefer no gamma correction. since you use zdoom anyway you should think about using a widescreen resolution for the viewers pleasure, even if you don't have such a monitor yourself. but these complete walkthroughs with talk about the levels, engine and secrets are really nice. good job and keep it up! 0 Share this post Link to post

Thanks for the feedback, and don't forget to like and subscribe! Regarding your points: * The final stage - I pretty much keep the rocket where it should be in the right spot since I've played that level so many times. I don't move it up or down vertically when I'm on the platform. It was very tempting to cheat there, though. Soooo tempting as I dislike that level. * I thought about widescreen, but I started in one resolution and will have to finish it that way. I still can do Heretic and Hexen that way, and correct the gamma. I'm still new to LPing so I'll learn a lot along the way. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sp00kyFox Posted September 9, 2013 yeah during a let's-play it's stupid to change settings. don't know which recording software you're using but I wanna recommend dxtory. everyone knows fraps but I think dxtory is the superior tool. has many options and you can choose the codec you wanna use. I'm not sure if it works with the software renderer of zdoom but you can check out the trial version (which adds a logo to your recordings) for free. 0 Share this post Link to post
Valkhorn Posted September 9, 2013 I've tried FRAPS with zdoom and it didn't work at all. So, I use Camtasia Studio 7 and it works like a charm. It's beautimous. You can get a free 30 day trial, but the full version is not cheap. I will probably buy the full version just because it's so intuitive and gives me so many options. 0 Share this post Link to post
Valkhorn Posted September 11, 2013 Here are the next four updates: Map 23: Barrels of Fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DehDH5xUv0M Map 24: The Chasm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYF89WXR_HQ Map 25: Bloodfalls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL_CaoO1SWM Map 26: The Abandoned Mines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYF89WXR_HQ I had a lot of fun in Maps 23 and 26. 24 and 25, not as much - but Map 24 is a very neat level. 0 Share this post Link to post
Valkhorn Posted September 12, 2013 Two more updates - we're approaching the end! Map 27: Monster Condo http://youtu.be/YDg40rAJUPU Map 28: The Spirit World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3P9y927XMI Edit: I updated map 28. It's taking ages to process for some reason. 0 Share this post Link to post
Arjak Posted September 13, 2013 I recently started watching this and I have to say, I am enjoying it a lot! I just finished watching Episode 2 of Doom 1 and I loved how quickly you took care of the Cyberdemon. I also appreciate how you show off all the secrets in each level, seeing how secret hunting is usually something I'm terrible at. It really gives me an appreciation for how much effort went into each level. Keep up the good work! 0 Share this post Link to post

I will probably do either Heretic or Hexen next. Heretic might be fun, though - but long. I've played through Hexen before, but never Heretic. 0 Share this post Link to post
Valkhorn Posted September 14, 2013 Just uploaded part 1 of Map 29: The Living End http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Xa6sZrZCk Part 2 should be uploaded sometime tomorrow... 0 Share this post Link to post
Valkhorn Posted September 16, 2013 Last two videos in the Let's Play: Map 29: The Living End Part B https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw9vqXFjCVM Map 30: Icon of Sin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX1IB056bQU I'm not sure what my next Doom related project will be. I may either do a Heretic or Hexen LP, or Return to Phobos for Doom, or maybe even do something special. I don't think Hexen /Heretic is allowed on this forum, so I'm not sure if I should post it here. But I do have other Doom projects planned. 0 Share this post Link to post
Valkhorn Posted September 20, 2013 I've spent a week away from Doom, and I've put up a new channel trailer on my youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/valkhorn I've decided that my next project will either be a quick LP of Return to Phobos, or Hexen. Let me know what you guys think, and where the general interest lies. 0 Share this post Link to post
