Different/Obscure styled or themed WADS?

Recommended Posts

There's that weird ZDoom wad with a bullet hell type boss. gggmork would know the name. NSA Alex Jones economy corporations McDonalds BFG cyberdemon brain pattern education randomized algorithm 1 texture map - there, he should pop up and clear it up any time now.

Disgruntled Former Employee, no contest. Where the Sky May Be & co present intentional funny silliness and Harris' boring simplistic idiocy only gained notoriety retroactively, DFE is genuinely loonie bin crazy. It's the wad Alex Jones would make, it's gggmork's posts made into a pair maps.

Here's Herring's maxdemo of it. It's just glorious.

I had this one really old wad i got off of 'doomwadstation.com' a long ass time ago. Basically the wad was revolved around strategy and puzzling to get your way through the map, quite a fun wad but very different from the many other wads you saw at that time and even now.

EDIT: found it - http://www.doomwadstation.com/alfred.html

what was my thread not good enough for you?

Exactly what I thought when I saw the title. Let me add some more:

doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15846]Killing Adventure by Ruba. Really strange levels/ideas, try it if you like interesting concepts made by a "newbie".
doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16436]Fragport by Stephen Clark, especially MAP31: Crystal Maze. Based in a 90's TV show, it's a large and confusing maze. Not for everyone, but still cool.
The Community Chest Series, various authors. Some unique maps in here, especially MAP20: Technodrome, from CC1 and MAP31: Disarming the Mechanism, from CC3 (timed levels, very clever); MAP32: Installation 07 Warzawa, from CC3 (I don't know why, but I always thought this level was really strange); MAP29: Citadel at the Edge of Eternity, from CC1 (Magikal maps were always incredible, and this is the best one IMO).
MAP06: Triplet, from The Enigma Episode by Jim Flynn and MAP08: Triplet 2, from Reverie by Valkirifroce. Hub-like levels, the latter being a tribute to the original by Mr. Flynn.
MAP31: Killer Colours, from Alien Vendetta. Relatively hard level with great visuals. The super-secret exit room is particularly attractive if you ask me.
Survive in Hell, by JC, especially the two secret levels, based on Tron apparently.

I'll add more when I remember them.

EDIT: I don't know how I could forget these ones:

Quo Vadis, by Gurkha Boy.
There's also a wad based on the Doom Comic, replacing E1M1. File size is 175,403 bytes. I can't find the link, basically because I have the bad habit of changing the file's names.

EDIT2:

Brian 50 Super Secret Level by a dude called Evil Space Tomato, 50 secrets (can you find them all?), MAP32: The Super Secret Level, from Doom II Reloaded, by Andy Stewart. Similar to Brian 50, but higher quality. Also, MAP18: Warehouse Siege, from the same megawad. "Forced pacifist", quite hard, at least for me.

OK, I should stop now, or I'm gonna spend the rest of the day looking for unique levels... and there are dozens out there.

EDIT3:
Dark Side of the Mind, by Daniel "Stormin" Norman, The Waterfront, by Scott F. Crank, Requiem MAP23: Hatred, Icarus: Alien Vanguard, MAP24: The Haunting, Hell Revealed MAP26: Afterlife, Plutonia 2, MAP32: Go 4 It, Eternal Doom, MAP25: Beginner's End, Reverie (yes, again), MAP18: Sleeping Spirits, and Project X, by Cyb, MAP14: Ghost Town. All of these based in the Ghost Monsters' bug.

OK, that's it. I won't post more... for now.

How about Grove, Oniria, Impossible, Beyond Reality, Mandrill Ass Project, Barista, or Mayhem Mansion?

They're not necessarily obscure (some of them were mentioned or awarded in the Cacowards for example), but they all have unusual styles or themes.

And then of course, there's pretty much anything by LilWhiteMouse. Whether it is Chibi Rebellion, D'deridex Command, GZShmup, Chosen, or even the old Bittersweet, they're always quite different from baseline Doom.

Heh, I tried using the ghost monsters bug for my MAYhem 2013 map: give it a try if you want.

I'll try it out.

Also, Peter Perv's Private Place. Porn, puzzles, and an Infinite Ammo BFG.

I don't know how I could forget that one.

EDIT2:

Continuous Wave, by Raphael Cheney. Interesting concept, based in the Morse Code. As the author claims in the text file: "You don't need to know Morse Code to play this wad! In fact, it's more fun if you don't."
Axis, I don't know the author, Chiggity, by Ribbiks, and Voidness, by Dant3. Conceptual wads based around handling large numbers of monsters.
Pamela Anderson in Doom, by Henk Gierveld (apparently there are two more versions, apparently the latter is not by the same author). Porn wads, somehow like Peter Perv's Private Place, but a lot easier.
Exquisite Corpse, various authors. From the description: "...each of the 12 authors was given a block of space 1024x1024 units big and asked to create a part of a larger level."

I'll add more when I find them.

Nuts.wad and it's crazy sequels are by far the most Obscure wads I've ever played. That and the R-Tards who make Terry wads.
