DOOM64EX Deathmatch maps.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I've made some maps for Doom64EX so am posting them here for you to try.
These are Death Match maps.
Although Doom64EX do not currently support online play Im hoping that these maps will get some interest going with you clever lot that know how to code such things.
These maps are quite large in file size as they have a lot more lighting and structure than the original Doom64 maps which were limited because of the lack of memory on the N64 cartridges.

PHOBOS2

Set onboard an abandoned comunications satalite obiting Mars this map has a very simple layout and would be good for 2-8 players I think.
Textures and lighting are very basic to add to the ghostly feel. Yet the structure is very complex. Most of which is hidden on the automap.

BASTION.

Set inside a castle this map to has a simple layout and should be good for 6-16 players.
This map really needs to have the 'Jump' and 'mouselook' functions enabled to get the most out of it.

DECK666

This is an industral themed map set inside a mining complex deep underground.
It has a rather complex layout and good for 16+ players.
Moody lighting casting heavy shadows give it a good atmosphere.

Also done some smaller maps using some of the original Doom64 levels. I thought these two were perfect for DM play.

CAT N MOUSE.

This is just a reworking of the original map from the game. I've done a few things to it to make it better for Death Match play
whilst keeping it very close to the original in terms of layout, textures, and lighting.

HARDCORE.

Another reworking of the original bonus map. There really wasn't much to the original so Ive added quite a bit whilst retaining
it's rather plain look.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum section. I guessed that D64 classes as 'classic'

I have no way of playing death match in D64 as nobody I know is remotely interested but I'll download the maps and have a run around to have a wee look. Thanks for posting these regardless. It would be lovely to see Doom 64 finally get online multi player. :)

Yeah seems that way, which is a shame as it's certainly the nicest looking of the 'classic' Dooms. The EX forum only has 34 members so getting any feedback is remote. So I thought Id post them up here for you guys to try.
Still... Im hoping Kaiser finds time to get it up and running at some point. And he'll have a few maps to use if and when he does. If any clever bods from here fancy helping out that would be great. I can barely write a macro so I'd not even attempt it.

Presently Im working on a DM version of 'Breakdown' which I'll post when done.

I did manage to play Doom 64 EX in DM once, it was really interesting but rather buggy.

I think the way I did it was start a coop game (DM crashed the game) with friendly fire or something like that.

It didn't keep track of frags but it sort of worked.

I think there was some coding in there for a two player game but it never made it to the final release. The game did suffer because of the restricted space on the cartridge, which some of the monsters missing, but you also get the feeling that some of the levels themselves were rushed in order to meet the release date. Which is probably why the multi player coding is incomplete.

This is my DM version of the map 'BREAKDOWN'
Ive only used a small section of the map, the part that naturally lent itself to DM play.
The overall layout is the same, with as much floor space added whilst retaining the original dimensions.

Much darker and mistier than the original with that same creeping atmosphere.

Should be good for 2-5 players I reckon.
