I used to be really heavily into thrash and heavy metal. Iron Maiden and Metallica's Ride the Lightning were definitely my favourite, as a bass player. But more recently I've been finding solace in stoner rock/metal. Things like Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Sleep and Red Fang. Black Sabbath and a lot of the heavier rock from the 70's is pretty stand-out as well. Led Zeppelin are probably the best band to have ever graced this earth. Some say the Beatles, The Stones or even The Who, for me it will always be Zeppelin in terms of musicianship they are unmatched.

When the levee breaks. <3

Been jamming to Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time recently.

Had a 1980s night with a buddy last night. Yes that's vinyl. :D

Ahh, this thread has brought back some AWESOME memories...
But it needs more Brocas Helm and Iced Earth!

Vinyl is the BEST! Over half my metal collection is on vinyl and the sound of digital just can't compare. Not to mention how much nicer the artwork looks when it's 10x larger.

Umm... He was having a 80's night with his friend, so it makes sense that you would play a (ridiculously hard) game from 1987 on a machine that's been around since 1985...
But then that's just me.

Good condition Vinyl sure does sound really good. I don't know if I believe that it sounds better than digital but put the two side by side and I couldn't guess which is which.

To me it's just a really fun way to listen to music. I would like to get some more metal albums on vinyl. And yeah, artwork is awesome, especially when it is as detailed and crazy as Somewhere In Time's.

Some of the bands I listen to that fall into the metal genre:

Soilwork, Sevendust, Celldweller (hybrid of metal and electronic, which would make it "industrial metal" but whatever), Blue Stahli (same deal as Celldweller, they work together too haha), Blood Stained Child.

Here's a song from Soilwork that I'm addicted to currently:

Some black metal this time:

Behexen - Under The Eye of Lord (loving the epic ending in this tune)

Taake - VII (havent listened to any norwegian black metal in ages, but recently picked up this gem from my dusty record piles again. Awesome.)

This whole thing is a work of art, a friend showed me it a few years back and damn, I love it:

I used a simplified MIDI of it for map14 of DK_DM_2. I just can't get enough of this stuff, will check out all the songs/albums above when I can play it loud.

I also love the newest Morbid Angel album. All of their stuff is good. Come at me!

Judas Priest - Reckless

I love this album so much... turbo lover, locked in, reckless, rock you all around the world, hot for love, private property are the best songs in the album.

Off to Download Festival next week. Headliners are decidedly bleh, but the rest of the lineup is fairly solid.

Looking forward to Rob Zombie, Battlecross, American Head Charge, Feed the Rhino, Monuments and others. Should be watching at least 20 bands in total.
