geo Posted May 26, 2014 I always hated the original NES Double Dribble game for the AI being able to pass off screen when the player can't pass off screen. They could pass the ball completely down the court. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted May 26, 2014 scifista42 said:Look at this whole thread, and specially at Mr. Chris's post on this page. You see a lot of "hateful" game features mentioned, which however repeats in many games, and many of them seem to be a trend and they'll probably stay as a trend. If you think about it, how can it work in a long-time measure? Don't the developers realize that players see the features as bad? Don't they care? Are we (the complainers) in minority? Or are our tastes "wrong"? Are there really so many players who'll buy everything "trendy and fancy looking", that the game development is driven purely by money (and fads) and not that much by attempting to make a quality playability? I can imagine it as an (unpleasant) truth, but it seems odd to me and I wonder. I'm fairly sure that, as you said, it's an unpleasant truth. Your average "Hey guys I just got into gaming 2 years ago" CoD players and the like are what you call "casual gamers", despite what they often claim - They are unable to critically analyze a game. I feel that is the true difference between a casual and hardcore, the passion for the medium. Someone can be a CoD fan and be "hardcore", if they analyze it and acknowledge the faults alongside the mechanics that make the game enjoyable. Someone who's like "DUDE THIS GAME IS FUKKIN SICK CUZ U SHOOT PEOPLE AND IT HAS GREAT GRAFFIX, IMMA BUY EVERY SEQUEL EVAR" is a casual, and unfortunately also the majority. This applies no matter what games/era you're into, as far as I'm concerned. Suffice to say, your average Doomworlder is fairly 'hardcore'. (I'm only using these words because they're the modern buzz-words that describe the two generalized halves of video game consumers.) 0 Share this post Link to post
Clonehunter Posted May 26, 2014 Jodwin said:*My favorite was once in Civ V when one of my friendly AIs asked me to give them gold. I refused, and as a result all of my five allies suddenly denounced me and declared war within two turns. O_O??? Strat Game AIs are like delicate flowers. Masters of Orion II is another example. They can spy on you as much as they want, but the moment you do it it's all out war. This is why in games like AoE I tend to Lock Team Settings so there are no team switches, just to make it a bit more bearable. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fulgrim Posted May 26, 2014 Games where the publisher and developer intros are not skip-able. Nothing more frustrating than starting a game and having to wait nearly a minute just to get to the menu because you can't skip them. The stupid reminders about things such as autosaves when you get to the main menu and start the game are just as annoying. Lastly the fact that just about every damn game has to load before the freaking main menu. If your menu screen is so complex it needs a to load, then you need to ditch the loading screen. I almost forgot the worst of them all. EULA. The simple fact that you go out and $60 bucks for a licence, rather then owning what you just paid for is wrong on so many levels. 0 Share this post Link to post

geo Posted May 29, 2014 All this stuff we hate about games is giving me the urge to make games again and I shouldn't. 0 Share this post Link to post
Infirnex Posted May 30, 2014 Luck. Or at least in the case where luck is the major factor. A little bit is great. When luck has to be dependent on, I don't like it. As such, Pokemon players that use Sheer Cold, Fissure, Guillotine, etc. can die for all I care. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bashe Posted May 30, 2014 When it comes to modern games anyway, I can't say I'm too fond of the try-hard, generic orchestral soundtracks that seem common. Nothing against that style, but it 's not done in a way that makes it memorable or enjoyable all that much. It's like they forgot how to have prominent, catchy lead instruments or something. Other than that, just the usual complaints like unskippable intros and cutscenes, bad DRM (especially when it's stacked on Steam already!), brown/gray and bloom, and stuff like that. As far as iron sights go, I don't totally hate them, but I hate when you have to use them to hit the broad side of a barn from 2 feet away. The way Killing Floor does it is how I think they should be done. 0 Share this post Link to post
geo Posted May 31, 2014 'Steam editions' of games with no Steam achievements. Unity games. They're starting to show up on Steam by the dozens and they're all pretty shitty. Kerbil, Earth 2066, Air Control and a few others come to mind. 0 Share this post Link to post
Pencil of Doom Posted June 1, 2014 There is another thing:Cheap Ai in any kind of game. I HATE THAT SO MUCH. 0 Share this post Link to post
mercuriusfm Posted June 2, 2014 I agree with many on forced tutorial stages. The worst kind are the ones that only let you do what the "lesson" says, for example, walking but not being able to look around yet. Literally makes me not want to play. 0 Share this post Link to post

What the hell are you blabbering about? Unity is an engine, you can literally make pretty much any kind of a game with it, just the fact that some people have made bad Unity games doesn't mean that there's something wrong with the engine itself. There's quite a few at least decent Unity games out there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrolls_(video_game) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns_of_Icarus_Online http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_Trail http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Among_the_Sleep http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeonland_(video_game) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun_Returns http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearthstone:_Heroes_of_Warcraft 0 Share this post Link to post

I thought Organ trail was Flash. My bad. Its still awful, dull and repetitive, but a great idea. But yeah I'd say those games aren't awful. 0 Share this post Link to post
