Post your earliest wad and lets talk smack about it!

Recommended Posts

I played this again for laughs and, boy, was it bad. Kind of embarrassed by it, but this was the first single player map I did. Check it out if you don't mind bad levels and fairly tough starts: E1Style. I'd argue that it doesn't live up to its name, heh.

If you really hate yourself today, try Chaingun Arena, my first deathmatch map. Also pretty forgettable if not downright bad.

Heh heh, do I have some levels for you.

This is my first megawad release, titled UAC Enterprises: http://wadhost.fathax.com/download.php?view.219

Really, there are two levels in particular that must be played and riffed upon. They are: Map 23 : Attic of Anxieties, and the infamous Map 26 : House of Fury. For those who know, HoF was featured in MrTheJoshmon's Wooo wad, and Jimmy, who beat the level during a livestream, would later write :"House of Fury can go %$#%^ itself with a spork." (His version didn't have any censors)

He also played all of Enterprises on livestream, and while many of the maps were frustrating because of their bad design, map 23 took the cake. :p

If only Jimmy's live streams of Wooo and Enterprises were still available. :(

You can still see the thread on the old forums about a demo mapset I uploaded, which was far from the first maps I'd made in Doom but it was the first I released to the internet.. This was about seven or eight months before Doom: The Arcade Game's release in late 2001. ReX was the only person to give feedback. And in retrospect, he was far too kind. An unintuitive crate maze, a vent maze that could really only be completed with the automap, levels that were way too open...

This might actually cause cancer, so be warned.

So when is someone picking out the cream of the crap to create the Smack Talk Smack Down Garbage Megawad?

Idk Job, I suppose I could, but I would need others to test some and vote. I simply cant play every one posted here, especially with the megawads coming in.

Thank God obake at least pointed out the 2 best (worst) maps.

I'll try to get to 2 or 3 more later tonight, but won't make any promises in case Mutiny calls my name.

Oh and btw, some of the ones I played here were far from the garbage I was expecting, so idk if theyd fit in the "cream of the crap" megawad.

dobu gabu maru's BigRocketBallet is beyond my skills; and I'm a Touhou player. However I don't know if that's intended or not but after two minutes or so it began to drastically drop to around 5-8 FPS and suddenly the map stopped, and the result screen appears as if I was successful. Then it loaded MAP02 as if I just won the first map.
Strange

This was the first wad I ever posted on Doomworld, and if I do say so myself, it's a pretty good indicator of what my maps would become.

Fucking Incredible.

Ah... Mutiny calls my name :)

Won't be playing many more of these for prolly a week while I do work on MAP07. Would like to see some jokes fly here in my absence ;)

*Edit*
I actually like the look of the map in the post above this one. Also Ling's pic of the maze level. But maybe I'm just a masochist, lol.

Yep lol

Shocking, isn't it? I made dumb crap in the past and I look back to that era and say "Wow, I made shit like this?" to myself.

That's, actually not at all what Ling meant. Unless you're being ironic. In that case, oh-hoah!

And shambler66 was added to the DW cultural body. GreyGhost, you better be reading this because it's going to be on the test!

I beat the huge ass map. The map was pretty fun, but the music made me want to cut off my ears and let a rabid dog lick the wounds... sadly, I had to settle for muting the game and listening to Super Metroid.

As for the MegaWAD, I'm up to E1M4, and again, I'm enjoying the maps. This time around, you were smart enough to NOT compose your own music for this and use the default Doom tracks, and you also added some custom sounds. While I do enjoy most of the sounds (The weapon pickup sound you stole from Perfect Dark is always a welcoming sound to me), your vocal sounds were less than desirable, with monsters sounding like a man birthing a child through his anus.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to be a jerk and have my friend play me in a Deathmatch in that giant map.

While I technically start experimenting with Doom mapping as far as 05, I have video evidence this crappy map I made back in 2008 using the old Doomcad1.6 map editor.

Not my first wad (i have uploaded my first works on a zip file and then uploaded it via mediafire, i have donated some maps for NOVA, but i can't find them for the love of God), but is my first released map on the archives, the highly acclaimed Try of a level of Doom!

Yeah, my grammar skills doesn't really going better with time...

Since i'm installing Android Studio on my laptop and i don't know how to waste my time in a stupid way, here i am chitchatting about this map.

Or it's textfile, for now.

Misc. Author info: An italian dude of 21 years, wich playing at this amazing game to the age of 10, my other hobbies is reading japanese manga and italian comincs,
using computer, playing whit emulator of old games (SNES, Megadrive, etc.) and to Max Payne, Half Life, hentai games... A perfect shitty life!
As first, a myth that need to be busted: I don't really played Doom since i was 10, but just 3 years later.... the day my first assembled 486 comes to my home.

Until that day, i just was a weird kid playing Sonic 2 and other few games on Game Gear and Sega Master System and other arcade games when i had the holidays at the local "place where adult and old men drink, play cards and scream horrible swears against every possible God"...

Also, why writing that i have a "shitty life"? My younger one was pretty negative...

And why i wrote that i had 21 years when my 22 birthday was 1 month ago? What i was thinking?

My first ever struggle to have something extravagant done WHILST I didn't even know shit about fierce, constant and progressive mapping back then in 2010 (the development took place between February and April).

The initial idea had ZDoom effects and 100+ maps in, also a huge backstory about preventing a volcanic eruption that might be fatal considering Earth's fate. For this, the player started from a hub-like level (MAP01) and vanquish a city full of hellspawn (MAP02-15), then escape to the plains (MAP16-MAP29) and follow a river (MAP30-MAP43) down to the sea (MAP44-MAP57), after that, embark on ground (MAP58-MAP71), enter the depths (MAP72-MAP85) and upon rising above ground, find a way to make the volcano stop (MAP86-MAP99), just before battling a huge lava monster that causes all the harm endangering the planet (MAP100).

The wad's texture set gone nutty twice due to a SLumpEd-XWE teamwork screwup during March-April 2010. The first one was corrected by breaking rivers of sweat, but once again, I became tired of the endless shit about grinning and bearing all my struggles getting dumped on a single scumbag move of the program, and I just quit it, leaving only three maps in the progress which are moreorless finished, but full of missing and/or replaced textures. This mainly concerns MAP06, the last in the progress, to which I created/imported shitton of mostly write-up textures, reading "BLUE BRICKS RAILWAY STATION" (which would've better been "METROLINE" rather than "RAILWAY"), "MASSIVE HELICOPTER BAY" and "PAUL CORFIATIS NATIONAL PARK" (I had a huge "artist's crush" on Paul in that period, admiring all of his work, though it mostly consisted of only 2002:ADO and Simply Phobos in the meantime).

MAP01 was the first map to be created. Despite not having any special effects, it needs ZDoom to get it ran, because of the unfavorable idiosyncrasy of me loving putting sidedef textures onto flats and vice versa. Anyways, just a stupid concept left halfway - in the "office" area, there was meant to be a ZDoom conversation, but nevertheless. MAP07 was the following one, because I wanted to have it done, an early outpost of the upcoming catastrophe, the lava filling up on the city which is already present in MAP06. (To get it more straight, only the northern part of the city, because the southern one is gone in this map for some reason.) Then came MAP06 with all the texturing madness I've already introduced in the previous paragraph.

No more need for words, go ahead, try it out for yourself.

AOD-DOOM Map 3, circa 1996

A big retarded maze AND a big retarded teleport maze, truly I was a budding game designer

Bonus points if the linedefs for the maze were flagged to not display in the automap. Pretty sure I did that in some old pile of shit I made.

Lmfao, y'all speak so fondly of mazes ;p

I for one like mazes if they're well-designed. Of course, it's almost impossible to tell a good one from a bad one until it's too late anyway, but there's a reason people enjoy mazes in the first place. Even irl, people like the old-fashioned corn mazes and hedge mazes and what not, nevermind a maze on paper.

Not gonna lie though, disabling the use of the automap through any means, even through "hiding" lines is just punishing as Hell. However, it wouldn't be so bad if there were landmarks/different sections to guide the player so the automap isn't missed as much.

One reason I like mazes: my brain works in a really stupid way... I can remember shit that doesn't matter, like a level's layout without trying, yet important things slip by me at times. As such, when I play a game, I like for stuff to be new. Bonus points if I can replay it in a different way, *if the map is different each time,* or if I just can't remember it all, but not in a "I'm totally confused" type of way.

There are a LOT of wads on this page already Cell - Just give it a little time and patience ;)

EDIT: Welp, like a lot of other maps on this page, it wasn't actually awful, just unremarkable. The lack on enemies made it very boring but the "switch hunt" concept is executed fairly well, and other than the lack of texture variation, the lighting effects (light shining through bars, for example) looked nice and I liked the 'conference room' bit as well.

Unremarkable, but with enemies would be a pretty fun little map. I like that whole 'secret passage' vibe it gives.
