I might not even use them for anything but if I do I'll give you credit. I'm really just practicing my modeling skills. Yeah, go right ahead! I'm flattered you like them enough to do so! 0 Share this post Link to post
Maes Posted August 14, 2015 The archvile-woman could get "pregnant" only while resurrecting -developing the same Christ-like stigmata as the archvile, and also bloating up-. After all, I always thought that archviles were supposed to be anti-christs, a sort of evil clone of Jesus Christ. Your idea makes them closer to evil clones of the Virgin Mary though...which is also awesome O_o For cacodemons and PEs, I personally would find it creepier if they had a confusing symmetry with multiple eyes and mouths -never knowing exactly which direction they are actually turned towards. Also, anything that makes them look dirty and infectious -like hair- makes them creepier. Think about the Doom 64 PE. 0 Share this post Link to post

Jaxxoon R Posted August 15, 2015 I guess cuz Jesus healed dudes or whatever. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nathan92 Posted August 25, 2015 Yeah, was thinking that they'd become pregnant with the enemy they'd be going to resurrect, only to become skinny again after the monster climbs out. The resurrected monster would start as something small and grow/mature to its full size really quickly. Thought that the nun-like imagery coupled with her being pregnant would be a good juxtaposition! I also think the Christ/resurrection comparison is pretty apt, I could at least kind of infer that connection with her posture or pose. The outstretched arms convey that the most. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cupboard Posted August 26, 2015 Man, OP really needs to try drawing some of these in sprite form. They all look great, but the Baron and Cyberdemon are my favorite. I approve making the archvile feminine, OP made a great choice going that direction. 0 Share this post Link to post

Koko Ricky Posted August 31, 2015 Excellent artwork, love the sense of depth and the elongated proportions. Really pro stuff. Kind of reminds me of Vincent Locke (the guy who illustrates Cannibal Corpse's work). 0 Share this post Link to post
Nathan92 Posted November 17, 2015 Apologies for the lack of updates on this project! Been super busy with non-casual work for the past few months, so personal projects like this one have been on the backburner! Anyway, I think I've solidified all their designs and will still be tweaking them as I finish the final illustrations, but here's the first one in progress! Started with the good ol' chubster. Not sold on the guns' looks just yet, but started giving the coloring a first pass, and the line-art is mostly done at this point. I want the monsters looks to not be 'too' influenced by the game, so the color palettes will differ quite a bit, if applicable. The Mancubus is a dude I see residing in the lowest depths of Hell, so because of the lack of light, I thought to make 'em pale, gross and semi-translucent like cave-dwelling critters, but also like dead fish. Also did another stab at the Spider Mastermind. I think I looked at Bacteriophages for the idea, as I wanted something unexpected for her. Below is a VERY rough sketch, but my brother gave me the idea of a pair of large, praying hands at the top, that would open up, letting her babies come scurrying out. I think the legs will be more chunky and industrial though, rather than spindly as per the sketch. 1 Share this post Link to post
raymoohawk Posted November 17, 2015 oh man that spidermastermind idea is great! i love how you fuse christianish elements in some of your monsters, kinda like if doom was fighting against angels instead of demons 0 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, definitely wanted to stick in some religious nods, something I think would give Doom a really interesting dynamic. Like, if these forces are from Hell, they're going to be blasphemous toward God and heaven, considering they've fallen from grace. Mostly using Catholic iconography and imagery at this point, a lot of which is oddly creepy looking to begin with. As I stated in my first post, I don't want to use upside down crosses and 666s all over, especially considering the former of which is actually a symbol for martyrdom, rather than satanism. Satanism also isn't really an ancient historical thing either, it kind of just got started in the 1960s by some dude. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jaxxoon R Posted November 17, 2015 Reminds me of that one boss from Half-Life 1. The big ol headcrab mother with the gross sack at the bottom. 0 Share this post Link to post

It's similar, but definitely unintentional! Believe it or not, I've never actually played any of the Half-Life games, though I've been meaning to. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nathan92 Posted November 17, 2015 Finally got the Arch-Vile to pretty much exactly where I want it! Again, for those that haven't kept up with the thread, the idea behind it is that when a nearby monster is downed, the thing's 'spirit' or 'essence' if you will, is transferred to her body where it grows inside her stomach. the thing starts looking like a newborn, continues to grow at a rapid rate until it explodes the protective sack that has formed around it, dropping to the floor covered in fluid as it eventually grows to its full size. This is only concept art right now, but that would admittedly make for an interesting gameplay mechanic, giving the player a buffering time to kill the AV before it births something... 2 Share this post Link to post
The Civ Posted November 18, 2015 Wow, the Gonarch-esque Mastermind is really nice. Maybe when you make the legs a little more "chunky and industrial", you could add a slight hint of each leg being the general shape of a Cross, possibly by having a little part on each side splay outwards? 0 Share this post Link to post
Deleted_Account Posted November 20, 2015 If Doom and Silent Hill fell in love, these creatures would be their offspring. 0 Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted November 23, 2015 I'm really liking the archvile's new concept. What would you think about making her emaciated, veiny and skeletal, like the original design? 0 Share this post Link to post
MacBeth Posted December 11, 2015 Pretty cool stuff dude, you're redesigns certainly have this spine shivering quality about them. Your version of Hell really has this dangerous, yet corrupting perversion about it, like it's goal, rather than domination through power and muscle, it's goal is to ruin you with its infection... At least that's what I get when I see your demons :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Clonehunter Posted December 12, 2015 Very cool stuff, again. I'd actually like to see these concepts fleshed out someday, if at all possible. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nathan92 Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks for the kind words guys! Once again, been super busy with client work and other projects that Doom has been lower on my list of priorities, but had some time today and finished the first enemy. I did start the Mancubi, but I'm going to leave him alone for now and just finish the enemies in order of appearance (or in the order of the monster credits at the end of Doom 2). This isn't completely finished, the only thing I have to do is add a bit of an implied environment around him. Something like my Mythology illustrations I did, which can be seen if you look up "Bestiary Alphabetum" on google or whatever. So, anyway, here's Mr. Zombieman/ Former Human! 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted January 2, 2016 He kind of looks like a furry character. 0 Share this post Link to post

Memfis Posted January 3, 2016 I think it's mostly his nose that reminds me of dogs kinda? Maybe a bit of mouth and eyes as well... Such things are hard to explain for me. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nathan92 Posted January 3, 2016 The reason his nose is dark (and perhaps it's darker on other monitors than my own, so I'll look into that) is that I found this hella creepy photo of a corpse buried in ice, and all the blood in his nose had turned to this darkish blue color, frozen inside. Thought it had a really cool look to it, as I don't want these guys to look like your typical zombie fare. No offense taken or anything, was just curious is all. 0 Share this post Link to post
Deleted_Account Posted January 4, 2016 The former human is totally disgusting. Love it! 0 Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted January 4, 2016 I love it as well, the uniform is very James Cameron's "Aliens," and that's never a bad thing. The frozen nose is a bit weird because I can only assume that offworld facilities have temperature regulation. I think it would look creepier if his nose had turned to mush and fell off, and there's just this ghastly hole of a nasal cavity. I like that you retained the green hair and had some of it lopped off. 0 Share this post Link to post
RNGPSY Posted January 4, 2016 heh i might guess its inspired from the mummy of John Torrington. just of how exceptionally well they were preserved in ice is freaky itself 0 Share this post Link to post
