Recommended Posts

Just wondering, for those of who speedrun, and I do sometimes, what's your favorite (Ultimate) Doom or Doom2 Episode to speedrun through?

As I recall the first 11 levels of Doom2 make up the first episode heh.

While I'm no wizard at speedrunning, I do enjoy to blaze my way through Knee Deep in the Dead every once in a while. It's a good way to keep my skills honed and the nostalgia in my blood.

And I keep trying to improve my time in map02... but that's not a whole episode, so I'll just say episode 1 in Doom2.

Define speedrun

Is it blazing through a level ignoring items/enemies and just heading straight for the exit? Or is it clearing a level getting 100% kills/items/secrets as fast as you can?

You can also use the term "speedrun" more generally, for any recording where you are trying to achieve a particular goal in the quickest possible time.

This goal can take many forms; e.g.:
* reaching the exit on skill 1 (ITYTD Speed);
* reaching the exit on skill 3 without killing any monsters (HMP Lemmings);
* reaching the exit on skill 4 with fast monsters, leaving no monsters alive (not counting lost souls) and using only weapons 1 and 2 (UV Fast Tyson);
etc., etc.

This definition is the one implied by such site names as "Tool-Assisted Speedruns" and "Doomed Speed Demos Archive" - these sites do not of course exclude Max, NM100S, etc.

Heh try to speedrun Episode 4 at skill >= 3. I never make it alive or take too
long but it is fun. Especially E4M2.

You should record some runs and post them in the demo forum.

EDIT: talking about the demo forum, what is this thread doing in General?
