Doom Rampage Edition: A Doom Modification Preservation Society Re-release!

Recommended Posts

We, the Doom Modification Preservation Team, the creators of other fine modifications, is proud to present to you a digitally remastered and restored version of the once-thought-forever-lost Doom modification: Doom Rampage Edition! Once thought to have been lost forever to the ravages of time, our trained team of experts have uncovered one of the last remaining copies in existence of this prestigious and legacyistic release. Unfortunately, the original documentation has been lost to the harsh mistress that is neglect. We, the Doom Modification Preservation Group, have instead decided to take this modification under our own wings. The names and identities of the original authors may be forever forgotten, but their work shall live in indefinitely in all its pristine glory thanks to our efforts!

Doom Rampage Edition was created solely for and only works properly in ZDoom 2.0.47i. This has been included for your convenience since it is widely accepted as the best ZDoom version available.

This download is 65.3mb. Here are the mirrors -

LOLWUT?!

A few things that have been added since 2.0.47:

* The texture manager introduced in 2.0.48 that allows flats and textures to be mixed
* DECORATE in all its forms (Another 2.0.48 added feature, IIRC)
* Strife support (2.0.90)
* The ability to get level stats (2.0.93, I think)
* Various ACS functions

and yet you say 2.0.47 was better?!

10 bucks says that this is the original author just trying to get some more publicity for this.

Hey, why not? If Uwe Boll can make a name for himself with his shitty movies, why can't you do the same with shitty wads?

You know, this project really isnt half as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I mean sure, it has a large amount of bad points, the copyright mp3's are the main one, but its still kind of interesting to play. When I first played it, I didnt stop until I beat it, I actually got into it. A little bit interesting. Its pretty fun to play a project that someone else created. Everyone has a little creativity.

My opinion in this, is that someone said it sucked, and where theres one, another will follow, and then more, and more. Since pretty much everyone says it sucks, of cource noone will admit that its not that bad.

Its really not necessary to totally diss this project. There are TONS more projects out there right now that suck total ass. MUCH worse than this one, and everyone always refers to this as being the worst project in doom history. There are many worse ones. also, believe it or not, the person/people that helped with this project probably put a lot of effort into it. Not everyone is blessed with perfect creative ability. The less fortunate ones have to work a lot harder to create decent looking projects.

Come on people... Lets find another project to hate on... Surely were all getting a little tired of dogging this project.

Holy jesusballs I thought this thread was a joke.

Wait, are you saying it isn't?

DRE is known as the worst wad ever, I'm not sure if it is, but that's the highest honor it can receive.
And 65 mbs???? Please don't tell me you saved the mp3 of the original version.

That's a new one...

DRE not only sucked because the wad sucked; it sucked because the author sucked, too. Seriously, he was an asshat.

That Chaingun sprite came with the companion CD for "3D Game Alchemy" from 1996.

I thought I recognized it from somewhere.

Having just tried to play this, I have to wonder if this was meant as some sort of elaborate joke all along. There's no other explanation for how much this wad sucks. Sure, there are plenty of wads out there that are much worse, such as Auferstehung or anything else from Doom Wad Station, but this is just unbelievably bad. Coupled with the immense hype and ego of its creators, it's no wonder this mod is so infamous. I really wish I could have experienced this the first time around.

Read this and it will take you back to those days.

Back to when it was first announced and everyone was so eager to play it.

Then they did...

65 MEGS?!?!
WHYYY?

And thats all just a bunch of MP3s, too.
DV2 is expected to be well over 100 megs, but at least theres content in that.

Unless your bandwidth usage is metered (or on dial up), I see no point in really being so anal about the size of files.

If rampage wasn't such an idiot, he would have uploaded DRE to a torrent. Nobody has to piss and moan about bandwidth usage, everybody gets it, and the idgames archive wouldn't have wasted it's time telling rampage to go to hell.

Too bad that smilies are disabled which makes it hard to express my true sentiments about this statement... ;)

Anyway, the only reason DRE doesn't work with newer versions of ZDoom is because the creator of this abomination was TOO STUPID to rename a few textures. There's a few textures in here that clash with one of Strife's animated textures and renaming them would have made it compatible with newer versions. But apparently someone who should not be named didn't even bother to analyze the problem with his WAD and decided to stick with a version that was already obsolete at the time of release.

Anyway, even fixing this problem wouldn't fix the utter crap factor.

It is. Period. You are right that someone said early that it was utter crap. So people were stunned in disbelief and checked it out to discover that it was indeed - utter crap. In fact it was one of the most painful Doom related gaming experiences I ever had - mostly not related to the mediocre (tending towards the bad) and boring level design but due to the utterly ridiculous player/monster health balance.

I find that the biggest reason I hate it is because:
A, it's a big download, you expected better considering.
B, it was overhyped.
C, required to use an obsolete version of ZDoom, just to cover the author's lazy ass.

In all honesty, if nobody had heard of dre, and it wasn't jam packed with completely out of place mp3s, it would be considered a boring mediocre at best wad, not some ravaged piece of shit that clings to our community like that girl you banged 2 months ago who won't get the picture and GTFO.

And on another note, NOBODY wants to hear alien ant farm in midi, hell, nobody wants to hear of that shitty band period.
A shitty band covering a shitty song just makes it all the more shitty.

It's just a shame Doom Rampage never actually posted on here. His own forums/news updates where solid-gold reading, but have been deleted now, and his site has become some shitty "clan" site
