Renaming Multiple Files Sequentially

It would be IMMENSELY helpful if XWE had a feature for renaming multiple files sequentially (i.e. 0001, 0002, 0003, etc.). I'm looking through the sprites for Necrodome, and would love to extract them but since XWE reads their names as about 10 different single characters (i.e. "{" or "*"), it's impossible because each new file that happens to have the same name overwrites the previous one. This makes a seemingly simple task into a needlessly huge chore.

Is Csabo still around? he hasn't said anything since late '07 :/

Perhaps you'd find it useful to make a program that renames all those files as eight characters each.

I'm requesting this as a modification to the existing "Multiple File Rename" feature inside XWE. It does no good to have an external renaming program if I have to rename them first even to get them out of XWE!

It'd be very useful an utility that renames just the first four digits (or perhaps whatever number you want) of the selected entries with the name you want, so you don't have to do it by hand, one at a time.
